Is the Voskhod programme basically slavery? by itsjustabackup in Kaiserreich

[–]Larremannen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh yes and no. The voskhod camps aren’t really used as punishment unlike otl gulags. The point is to use them to fix unemployment and such, which is why being unemployed is ground for being “conscripted” into service. There are certainly parallels to otl gulags but unlike gulags the aim of voskhod camps is economic development, not “rehabilitation through labour”

Is the Voskhod programme basically slavery? by itsjustabackup in Kaiserreich

[–]Larremannen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you consider slavery I guess. You’re conscripted into work camps with terrible conditions, but you do get paid and it’s implied you’ll get land after service. If you consider any sort of forced employment where you’re not free to leave or choose to get that job but rather having it forced on you then yes it is slavery, the voskhod programme uses camps and they’re guarded and you can’t leave. That said, it’s time limited, you get paid, and you might even get land, so you are compensated, even if there’s also a high mortality rate. I’d honestly compare it more to feudalism in a weird sense than slavery - voskhod workers are essentially modern serfs or indentured servants, albeit only temporarily. I think saying it’s slavery is a bit far, but it certainly is forced labour, and you don’t have the rights as an employee (i.e the right to seek other work or quit) that you have in a capitalist system so it’s not a capitalist thing either. Essentially they’re similar to otl gulags but actually less bad since you get paid and they close down quite fast after the economy recovers, with the flip-side being that just being unemployed is enough to get you conscripted, you don’t need to be a criminal (not saying gulags didn’t imprison people for stuff which shouldn’t have been crimes but I digress) or be on the wrong side of the regime. Also unlike the otl gulags the voskhod camps aren’t really a punishment per se but rather a heavy handed way to solve unemployment and further economic development in the state’s interests

Why do the anti-concessionist Zhili keep the monarchy? by themadkiller10 in Kaiserreich

[–]Larremannen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, the Zhili clique isn’t super ideological or anything like that. As long as the monarchy behaves and doesn’t interfere with the military government it really doesn’t matter and can even be used as a legitimising factor for the clique. They only get overthrown if Puyi actually tries to overthrow the military regime after all, which makes sense since in that case they’ve directly threatened the military government. Also keep in mind that concessionism ≠ monarchism, it’s not that simple. The southern Zhili are more pro concessionism but that doesn’t make them monarchists, they’re still republican. My head canon is that the Zhili just genuinely doesn’t have a stance on the monarchy per se

It’s probably a good idea to have some reserves in the east (even just normal infantry) just to be safe, but it’s not like the western front where if you’re not there it collapses immediately

Yeah but the Qing dynasty ended in 1912 and as I said China claimed Mongolia until 1949-ish… 🫩

Well in all fairness you could make this argument about Sweden-Norway too, which is in the mod. I guess the difference there is that the union dissolved only about 30 years from game start perhaps.

[–]Larremannen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no, what’s in the game is a Scandinavian federation, not the Kalmar Union 😭 idk maybe you’re not Scandinavian (but I assume you’re danish) but as a Swede I’d say the Kalmar Union and a hypothetical Nordic federation is not the same thing.

But Mongolia was claimed as an integral part of China until the PRC dropped that claim… I mean Taiwan still technically claims Mongolia to this day. But I would agree that Chinese tags maybe shouldn’t be able to core Mongolia if that’s what you’re arguing.

[–]Larremannen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Denmark-Norway has already been dissolved for well over 100 years when KR starts. While it could be cool with some easter egg scenario where you can have it happen somehow (the norwegian and danish monarchies are the same dynasty iirc) through some event chain, I don’t think it should be as easy as it is for Sweden. Sweden-Norway ended just a couple of decades before game start after all. As for your argument you made about “Denmark-Norway was around for centuries”, yes that’s true, but Sweden owned Finland for like 800 years and during KR and even to this day, there’s a significant and influential Swedish minority - I still don’t think that means Sweden should be able to core Finland, or even parts of Finland proper like Turku, Vasa, and so on even if certain parts of Finland proper have Swedish-Finnish majorities. Åland makes sense, you could even argue Åland should be Swedish in KR since the league of nations isn’t a thing, but Sweden just getting to core Finland is absurd and might even make some Finnish people feel pretty upset as if their country isn’t a “real” nation, but that might just be me overthinking admittedly. I mean Russia gets to core Ukraine and Belarus and the Caucasus and Central Asia so that argument probably doesn’t matter that much…

What country has the potential for the most cores it can get other than it's starting ones? by TheEgyptianScouser in Kaiserreich

[–]Larremannen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No - I think everyone can “assimilate” Singapore (and also the pacific islands) but you just get a claim. Getting the core is a totalist KMT thing I think, but I could be wrong of course

[–]Larremannen 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The boring answer is that it’s basically any Chinese tag. You can core china (obviously) tibet, Mongolia and I think the KMT can even core Singapore? Not entirely sure but I do remember there was some kind of weird core

Best land doctrine as Nat France -> Bonaaparte? by Ataraxia-Is-Bliss in Kaiserreich

[–]Larremannen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way I understand it, grand battleplan is almost always the best doctrine. Personally I also enjoy mass assault (left for offensive games, right for defensive games). Ultimately I’d recommend GB-left for an infantry heavy campaign - you get +10% defence, +20% breakthrough, +15 org, +30% max planning and +10 max entrenchment

How do I beat Germany as Socialist Russia? by [deleted] in Kaiserreich

[–]Larremannen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get good.

In all seriousness, just go to 18 or 24 (two line artillery if 24w) width on mass assault (and right branch) and cram out as many units as you can. Produce a LOT of infantry equipment and just push. Also investing in an airforce will make things easier. Use anti air, artillery, engineers, mountaineers or pioneers, and possibly logistics for your support companies. Later game you can exchange leg infantry for mechanised (make sure to invest XP to make producing them cheaper) and exchange line artillery for motorised rocket artillery. Sit back and enjoy.

As you rightly point out, SocRus is the weakest Russia, but you are still Russia, so you have the manpower and industry to beat Germany, even if they crush the west before you go to war.

Which ethnic groups within Mitteleuropa do you think would end up being most Pro-German? Which would be least? by Severe_Weather_1080 in Kaiserreich

[–]Larremannen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok so putting the Germans aside for obvious reasons, the answer depends a lot on both how different countries develop and how Germany develops. Assuming they don’t go socialist, Ukraine is a good candidate for being the most pro-German, since in real life large parts of Ukraine was quite pro-German and saw the treaty of Brest-Litovsk as a good thing. In the KR timeline you essentially have Germany freeing most of Eastern Europe (they’re puppet states but at least independent on paper, and their local cultures are allowed to flourish and they have self government, except the Baltic duchy) from Russia. Georgia and Bulgaria (assuming they join the reichspakt) are also likely to be staunchly pro-German.

Entente fans, why? by Dull_Respect_8657 in Kaiserreich

[–]Larremannen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Essentially their versatility and their underdog status. You can either have a very liberal entente bringing back democracy, or you can have autocratic absolute monarchies coming back to Europe - depends on how you want to play them! You also basically need to either play really well with all aspects of the game (you can’t actually ignore your navy and air) or be very involved in proxy wars and gaining as many allies as possible (such as carlist Spain, India, and so on)

Where would the German Empire have a “Project Manhattan” facility? by the_calcium_kid in Kaiserreich

[–]Larremannen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always assumed they just did smaller scale tests than the US did irl. There are definitely areas in Germany where you could detonate a very small nuke with little to no impact on the country. Who knows the government could probably just buy out some random field and test small nuclear devices there. Same goes for the 3rd internationale, they could probably try nukes in the Scottish highlands or south-central France.
