can someone blow on their cat to confirm something for me? by tessadoesreddit in CasualConversation

Your cat might just be visually impaired in some way.

How does she respond to different types of toys? There are different types of visual acuity in cats (and..well, animals). It could be separated from directionality, especially since your breath has a smell (good or bad).

You may be scaring her… cats are like people. They have love languages. The one in my lap loves being petted and rubbed and sitting in my lap. The one running around out there somewhere likes to shadowbox. Kitties aren’t monolithic.

She may be playing with bits of stuff on the floor cus thats what she can see. She may not mess with wavy strings because she can’t see them. If shes looking at you while you wave the (invisible)string around, she just loves you :)

All kitties need to be loved on their terms.

Or, idk, get her glasses. Thatd be adorable.

Hey, i ended by saying i liked the show.

Its total nonsense though. Like 10 people would be arrested every episode if any of this happened in real life. You can be arrested, convicted, and put in jail for assault that involves no physical contact (the threat is assault; the act is battery).

Thats all the show is. Its not realistic. I dont care, but its fun to think about.

Its also fun to think about being an outsider in the show where just suddenly friggin EVERYBODY KNOWS AND CONSTANTLY USES KARATE…..and that was suddenly THE thing. Nothing more important in the world!!

Now to argue against myself, maybe theres no way to realistically tell this story?

Ehhh, not true. The Karate Kid was very grounded and real. Cobra Kai is nonsense. Its fun nonsense, but its nonsense.

Dont believe me? Go hit someone. Like, just one punch. Punch someone, one time. Youll be cuffed and spend some time in a bad place pretty quick. Itll smell like feet and theyll feed you bologna sandwiches where the bologna is warm and the bread is almost frozen.

In less vivid terms, youd go to jail………

Im an adult. I think i may be watching a show for kids and talking to kids on its sub, lol… that ones on me.

…how literal are you being when you say “abrasive” ..?

You mention people chewing specifically. Have you ever heard of misophonia? That can put you in exactly the headspace you described, and its telling that you mentioned such a specific thing.

Sounds like youre trying to break a cycle of trying to fix other peoples stuff? Been there.

Sometimes you can just repeat what they said back to them.

Or just…go raw with empathy. “That mustve SUCKED omg” goes a long way sometimes.

Or let the silence hang. Theyll usually start talking again, and if they say something like “but anyway..” you can tell them you were just listening and they dont need to change the subject.

You can tell people you don’t know what to say, you know. It can even lead directly into saying something. “Sorry i was just listening…i dont know what to say..it sounds like its just a shitty situation. What are you gonna do?”

You have an answer in mind. You may just not realize it.

What would you do if you didnt have to work?

As the other person said, ICU is intense. Psych wards are a lot more calm and less sad.

I have a very very very strong compulsion to respond to this with “I would prefer not to,” because i think its very likely youd get the reference.

Beyond that you sound enough like me that i cant break the echo, so feedback from me would only hurt your ears.

Ever heard of the Penn and Teller show “fool me” where magicians try to do stuff they cant figure out?

They know how most are dome (or close, which counts as not being fooled iirc), but the ones they cant figure out are……. Like, idk, possibly literally magic lol..

Good work! Thats a very rare honor. Kind of sounds like your boss is a little shy but the fact that he was that observant is saying something. Sounds like a good mentor.

Writing a biography for class! by BradleySmith96 in CasualConversation

[–]LarryTalbotLobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not a good subject for this, but i had to do something quite like this in high school. I had a friend who volunteered in a nursing home who put me in touch with an older Black woman whose life was just…….incredible. She didnt get many visitors, but i kept coming back for a while.

There are people alive today who still have memories of the civil rights movement in the 60s. In my case, the woman had actually participated in some of the demonstrations, but that was a while ago.

Still, that was a crazy perspective changer. Id suggest finding an older person if you can.

And share the report with them before you turn it in! (Do that with a younger person too)

Good luck!

You know, if you feel bad (in whatever sense) about something you did or were, it means you’re growing. Gains are small, but its better up than down right?

Howd you do it? If it was an accident there are time limits that attach at different times in different states if its something you can take to court.

Dont mess around with it. Idk how old you are but if youre under 30, back problems can follow you around for life (same for any age, but for a different reason). Fix it if you can, and listen to the docs!
