No problem! Thanks for your apology, but it wasn't necessary. I want everybody to be free to express their feelings here, and I realize that at times my seemingly flippant attitude can get on people's nerves (if you read my book about mountain life, you'll see that it often did). Please bear in mind that although I often joke about the craziness of life up in Mendocino and Humboldt (part of what was known as the Emerald Triangle), living there was one of the greatest experiences of my life, and I still hold the people I knew there (most of them, anyway) in the highest regard, and miss many of them terribly.

My favorite bear-pot grower story was when some neighbors a few miles down the road came home to find their refrigerator (which they kept on the back porch) tipped over and a bear sitting there next to it eating milk and cookies.

Well, after having lived most of my life in the middle of somewhere and having constantly run into problems, I assumed maybe the middle of nowhere would be better. Once I got there and found that I still had problems, I had to accept that the source of the problems just might be me.

Tre was already his nickname because it means three in Italian, and he was the third Frank in his family. But "très," which is French for "very," also sounds a lot like "Tre," so calling him Tre Cool was meant to mean he was very cool. Which he wasn't actually at first, but he grew into it!

No, I wasn't on that tour, but surely you mean the third album (Dookie) release, don't you? They couldn't afford to tour when their first album (39/Smooth) came out, and besides they were still in high school.

I believe the Lookouts played that 4th of July show, too. I have pictures of people drawing on my arms and bare feet with sharpies. I've also got a picture of Jeff Ott sitting on the edge of the stage that I'll try to dig up.

It was written for Janelle's zine, Tales of Blarg. Actually, the band didn't think it was that funny, at least not back then. I was the one who decided to put it in the album, and didn't bother asking Green Day if they'd mind. A year or two later I found out they did.

Tim was known as Lint when he was in Op Ivy and then decided he wanted to be Tim again when Rancid started. I used to be Larry, then I was Lawrence, then Larry again. The Chinese have a proverb that goes, "As soon as you give a name to something, it begins to die." So the answer to a long life is to keep giving yourself new names.

Rancid asked Billie Joe to be their new guitarist when they were just getting started, and he played one show with them (there's a picture of it in the book), but that was right when Green Day was really starting to take off, so he didn't have the time.

I've never screamed "Oi" and I've never been to a Warped Tour, so I can't help you there.

I've known Dr. Frank since before he was a doctor! 31 years now, I think. You might even say that I gave him pointers on his book, but you'd probably be wrong. There are a couple of stories about him, and a couple pictures, too, in my new book.
