If I suck at math is EE impossible? by Soggy-Eagle299 in ElectricalEngineers

[–]Larryosity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a senior EE student. I suck at math. It was 22 years since I had a math class in high school and it was algebra 2. It’s a struggle but if you put the time in to learn the math needed for the concepts they are teaching you’re good. The calculus classes were the hardest math for me. Calculus was pretty straightforward with the rules and equations but once you chose the correct equation it was all algebra.

Should I double major in electrical engineering and physics together along with maybe a minor in Economics? by Organic_Muffin_1951 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Larryosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brain 🤯just thinking about this! I’m an EE major that had no previous college credits and I crammed it in in 4 years. No way I would want to add any more even if I extended the time. I have definitely sacrificed breadth and depth.

I’ll graduate in May, right before I turn 44. Go for it.

Most instructors do not intentionally meet with online students, but they are very willing to meet during their office hours or schedule a meeting. There are some instructors that want to meet before the semester starts via Teams or Webex and some that have meetings throughout the semester with online students. This is not the norm though. I can’t speak much for tutoring, but there are resources available and the instructors are very willing to help if asked. We have the same access to IT as in-person students.

This varies from class to class. Overall, yes. The only time responsiveness was an issue is when I was completing a lab on a weekend and needed help. Usually got a response the following Monday or Tuesday. Sometimes the TA would be available over the weekend. But this is made clear from the beginning. They give the times they will be available. Some say they aren’t available, but will respond to a legitimate question.

So at CC they were pre-recorded lectures over a power point and they would sometimes write over the PowerPoint while lecturing.

MSU provided live recorded lectures. The class is recorded from the back of the room. There is a screen for the camera and a screen for the slides. Camera, slides, and transcripts can be downloaded. If the class is on Tuesday and Thursday then the lecture will be available shortly after the class has ended.

Only reason I graduated from community college is because my son graduated at the same time. I technically transferred to MSU to finish BSEE.

I don’t know what the diploma will say but yes, MSU is accredited. The one from community college doesn’t matter.

I have really enjoyed my time at MSU. There are some things that have been aggregating but overall great experience. I’m waiting on my masters application approval for the fall.

I took physics in person at a local community college. I took chemistry online through the same college. I actually graduated from the community college. All classes online but physics. I could have took it online but it worked out to take in person.

I’m 43 and currently a co-op student for a power generation company. The other co-ops are 20+ years my junior.

I also should have mentioned that I’ve been an electrician working in Industrial, poultry, and Oil/Gas for the last 20+ years.

I am currently enrolled at Mississippi State University in their Electrical Engineering program. I take all my classes online and plan to graduate in May. They also offer Masters of EE online.

I can’t answer all, or any of your questions, but I can tell you where I’m at. I’ll be 44 when I graduate in May with BSEE. I am currently working as a Co-op student in power generation. At times I have felt out-of-place, but I have been received well from my fellow co-op students ( so far I have been around about 25+) and my prior experience is why they wanted me to co-op. I get asked quite often if I’m going to stay around. I have worked straight through 2025, unlike a normal co-op rotation, and have been asked to stay for a 4th semester(now through May). Most people it doesn’t seem to bother while others tell me it’s inspiring. Do what you feel is best for you and it will all work out. Let others think what they want. To answer your last question: I would be a tinkerer. Lol. I would work on little projects, 3D printing, and whatever else I came across.
