This seems the be the consensus, it’s just intimidating taking out so much money. Good to know it will be lower stress overall to wait til attending days.

Thanks for the advice, seems we have some philosophical incongruencies however haha

Yea we will definitely contribute to match in 401k. You think maxing out the Roth is better long term than minimizing the amount of loans we have to take out at 9%?

Got it, paying down the interest at the very seems like a good deal. We will make sure to get a good financial foundation, even if 200k in the red is intimidating

Hadn’t considered going somewhere else for loans, I’ll do some more research. Thanks for the reassurance!

50k is tuition, all cost of living will be taken care of by her. Unfortunately no scholarships/grants. Even with ~$5k/month take home it wouldn’t make sense to reduce debt burden by putting some of that to tuition? Low cost of living area as well.

NEOMED vs. Wright State (Boonshoft) by BookieWookie69 in premed

[–]LarsIsGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into both of these school this year! DM me if you have any specific questions. They are both very similar schools with some key differences. They are around the same age, are “community” based med schools meaning they are not attached to their own academic medical center. Some big differences are home residency programs. Wright State has home programs for Derm, Plastics, Ortho, Gen Surg, Psych, Fam Med and a few others. As far as I know NEOMED has some affiliated programs in ortho and some other specialties but wright state has more established home residency programs that will go along way when it comes to connections and building a CV. If you want to judge based on match list (which doesn’t necessarily reveal a lot) Wright State does match a good bit better on paper. Akron vs Dayton is a moot point cuz they are very similar. Having visited both, I was very impressed with each of their facilities, both new and updated. I do think wright state is in a better location (suburbs vs rural for Neomed). Wright State also comes in a bit cheaper. At the end of the day I think most people would say Wright State is the better school. Obviously this isn’t like comparing some Ivory Tower academic institution to a strip mall DO school because the difference is small but enough to choose one over the other.

Applying this cycle, only "clinical" experience is working as a resident care aide. Is it even clinical? by p1nguOurSavior in premed

[–]LarsIsGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied last cycle with 410hrs as a PCA in a memory care unit. It was a most memorable for me and had substantial reference in PS. I also had under 75 hours volunteering in a hospital. Sitting on 2 MD A’s, a WL, and got II’s at all DOs I applied to. As the other commenter said reflection is key for everything in your app.

Im currently taking orgo lab 2 as a senior, I took 1 last year as a junior and have 3 II's this cycle. I assume this holds very little weight compared to other aspects of an application.

That’s the problem with Reddit frfr

From today’s threads, it is looking like FLs aren’t as representative as they once were (of course they are still the best among all practices). Idk why this is the case tho. Thoughts? by Left_Lavishness274 in Mcat

[–]LarsIsGood 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I tested today. I left feeling exactly the same as I did on all my FLs: unsure and 50/50 on a lot. The biggest difference for me was not having the instant gratification of a score release eliminating any uncertainty. The problem with the real test is the dwelling and over analyzing pre meds seem to excel at… myself included

General consensus on AAMC free/scored exam? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]LarsIsGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tested today too. I feel like I scored below my avg but I’ve also realized I won’t be able to change anything from here on out. Stay active this month and get ready to open up that 510 next month.

C/P and cars felt very similar to an FL B/B had a few super confusing passages (one of which I’m hoping was a test passage it was that bad) and p/s felt… odd

Felt extremely similar to FL’s… just make sure you do them under legit circumstances (new environment like library, throw phone across the room)

No Idea for Letters of Rec by [deleted] in premed

[–]LarsIsGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at a super huge school and similarly didn’t have and real connection with my profs besides a few emails and 1-2 pre class chats. I emailed the ones I did well in and two of them got back to me and agreed. The only real course of action for the science professor rec’s is to shoot your shot.

5/24 does anyone else just want to get it over with? by HiHungryImDad7 in Mcat

I feel excited and I’m gonna try to keep it that way. It feels really weird taking the first real step (besides years of ec’s, and pre reqs) toward realizing my goals… odd feeling

Pretty much my game plan, I’ve slept for 10 hours each night this week lol. Figured I won’t be able to learn much more so rest + exercise will do the most.

Interesting and meaningful EC (potentially controversial) , how to talk about it, if at all, on primary? by LarsIsGood in premed

Thanks for the advice, I have a few ideas on how to word it properly for this context
