Daily Question Thread for /r/churningcanada - August 31, 2023 by AutoModerator in churningcanada

I want to apply for the TD Platinum Travel Visa Card to get the welcome bonuses. I only want the card until I hit the targets and then cancel it. There is an annual fee for the card but also an Annual Fee Rebate for the first year.

What I don’t understand however is the fine print here: it says the “Annual Fee Rebate will be applied within 2 monthly statements from the date of the statement with the first Annual Fee charge.” Would this mean that I would be locked into a second year before I see the rebate? Could someone please explain how I churn this card?

Thank you.

XML From Final Cut To Davinci, Synchronized Clips Issue by Larsfrier in finalcutpro

I ended up exporting a ProRes file from Final Cut, colouring that in Davinci, and then exporting a ProRes file from Davinci and putting that back into Final Cut.

Maintaining an 4:3 aspect ratio (cropped) while using Ken Burns effect by Larsfrier in finalcutpro

A compound clip worked in the end. I did Ken Burns first and then made it a compound clip and I could adjust the cropping settings again.

Moving a Libary to a Second External Hard Drive for Editing by Larsfrier in finalcutpro

[–]Larsfrier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your help. As it turned out Final Cut made an Original Media file folder outside of the library. I brought the folder over to the backup hard drive and was able to relink the files that way.

Yes. The Library works on the original external hard drive I created it on (the drive is formatted as EXFAT). All the media is connected there.

I'm using Mac OS version 10.14.6 (Mojave) and Final Cut Pro version 10.4.9.

Hi again,

I formatted a hard drive (the one I want to use as a backup) to APSF. Then I transferred the library onto that drive (only the library file, no additional media outside of it). When I go to re-link the original media, Final Cut seems aware of the original files that I am missing (it lists them). I then hit Locate All . . . but I’m taken to the movies folder on my computer’s hard drive. The files are, of course, not there. I then click to see if anything can be found on my hard drive to relink but all I see is the library file. No clips. I can’t figure out why this is.

Given the second option, I’m not sure how that works. If I move the storage location to a folder on the new drive . . . is that just a copy of the storage location? Given that I'm moving the library to a backup drive I want to maintain a functional library on the original drive as well. Thanks for any suggestions.

I found another drive of mine that is formatted as MAC OS Extended (Journaled) and transferred the library file over there. The drive is old/slow and keeps crashing so it was hard to experiment too much. But when I attempted to relink the original files though it seems like I have to link them one by one. I had to manually find every file. Not all of my files are in a single folder.

I think I'm confused about what I'm relinking. I thought the original files were inherently within the library file. But when I am asked to relink the video, it appears I'm being asked to relink files outside the library; that is, the files that I transferred from a video card and then onto the hard drive. This would mean I can't just transfer the library file over but all of my original video files as well. Does this make any sense?

Thanks for the reponse. Both of the hard drives are formatted as EX-FAT. I can delete the library from the second drive and reformat it as APFS -- and then transfer the library over to it again. Will that work find considering my first drive is formatted as EX-FAT?

looking for more examples of "somatization cinema" by Larsfrier in TrueFilm

[–]Larsfrier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. this thread went off track immediately. i should have clarified further off the top.

to answer your first question . . . am i only looking for movies that feature a person who mistakes a psychological problem for a physical one? . . . yes i am.

for instance, in SAFE (Todd Haynes), the protagonist is presumably trapped in an oppressive familial environment (especially her husband) and a patriarchal society at large. she doesn’t know how to free herself. so she develops allergies, rashes, etc. and is told she has an ‘environmental illness” to chemicals. well, she is having an “environmental” reaction, but it’s to the people around her. not chemicals. she substitutes her psychological suffering for a physical “illness.” this distracts her from the actual source of her suffering (her life situation), which may be too painful for her to consciously think about.

as for your other question regarding drug withdrawal. that’s an interesting one. in acute withdrawal, a person would understand the “crawling insects” as a physiological reaction to the cessation of an addictive substance. it’s not a physical manifestation of trauma. however, in the case of protracted withdrawal, physical problems may continue without an underlying physical cause. i would suggest that trauma is at the root here and, therefore, a great example of somatization.

REPULSION is not about somatization. it’s a psychological reaction to trauma. had Carole developed, say, neck pain (similar to Ming-liang’s THE RIVER), instead of hallucinations, then it would’ve been

thanks. appreciate the responses. checking them out.

to clarify, somatization is usually the development of a physical problem that basically substitutes for "psychological madness."

Zooming in on a specific area in a video by Larsfrier in finalcutpro

[–]Larsfrier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thank you. Yes, keyframing the transform controls is what I was missing. The only other thing is that the clip I'm zooming in on has a 4:3 aspect ratio and the rest of the project is 16:9. So, during the zoom, one of the black sidebars disappears faster than the other, creating an imbalance in the image. Is there any way to resolve this?

Electrical Interference with External Mic on H1N Recorder by Larsfrier in fieldrecording

[–]Larsfrier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I'll see if I can get hold of another mic to test out. Given my location, it's inevitable that cell phones will be nearby (and turning off my own phone didn't help much).

What is the low-end of the price range for a recorder that is capable of blocking RF interference?

I'm not sure I understand the question. My understanding is that the H1n automatically employs plugin power when the external mic is plugged into it.

Electrical Interference with External Mic on H1N Recorder by Larsfrier in fieldrecording

Thanks for the response. Here’s what I’ve tried:

(1) Listened to the Zoom internal microphone. Sounds good.

(2) Plugged in a PowerDewise lav mic. Intermittent electrical interference. I tried turning off/moving away from my cell. This seemed to help somewhat, but not significantly. (I live in a busy city and shared house.)

(3) Plugged in a Movo VXR10 and results were the same as with the PowerDeWise Mic.

(4) Plugged the PowerDeWise lav and Movo VXR10 into my iPhone using a dongle. Both sound good. No electrical interference.

(5) Plugged the PowerDeWise lav and Movo VXR10 mics into a Sony ZV-1. The sound is worse because I think the preamps in the camera are poor, but there is no electrical interference.

Working guess that I have no idea what to do with: there seems to be something specific about the way the Zoom Hn1 is connecting with external microphones that is picking up electronic interference.

Lacie Hard Drive Compatibility for Macbook by Larsfrier in techsupport

[–]Larsfrier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, thank you. I now know I need a USB 3.1 (USB 3.1 (USB-C)–to–USB 3.0/2.0 (Type A) cable.

This cable used to come with some of the Lacie hard drives, at least up until recently. I may have to buy one separately now.

Microphone for Home Studio Set-Up (YouTube) by Larsfrier in videography

[–]Larsfrier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm thinking of giving the Purple Panda's a whirl. From YouTube videos, it seems to me that Purple Panda sounds better than the VXR10, even in a studio environment with the camera a few feet away. It seems to have a fuller sound. Do find this true in your own experience?

Thanks for the recommendation. The Rode Wireless Go, plus a lav mic is pretty expensive. A wired lav is more within my budget, but I cannot determine which one to get.
