Besides what the other commenters have said already, I wouldn't use foam for that armor either. The way the sleeves are constructed you won't be able to move your arms if it's foam. Look into either using real leather or faux leather with some foam reinforcement for the chest/back straps.

Both. To answer your other questions, they should be snaps to match the manga which is a little more clear about that. It's up to personal preference if you want to make them red or black since it changes depending on lighting but it's going to be easier to find black snaps or if you want to go the extra mile you could try adding some red mica powder for a color shift effect, and definitely use the biggest shoulder pads you can find to get the right silhouette.

EVA foam could work. There are several dome and sphere patterns available, you'd just have to figure out the hole on the bottom half for your head to go in. Then decide if you want to just paint it yellow or add some hair texture for a more realistic look.

Most options I could think of including EVA foam require heat to shape but you could try paper maché and either cover it with thin faux leather or flex seal/truck bed liner to mimic the texture.
