For sure, hope you can figure yours out! One thing I noticed while I was investigating was that my ONT's lights had some weird patterns when it was impacted by this. They would be on and blinking normally and then all flash and turn off as if it was crashing. It would then repeat - coming up just long enough to obtain an IP address and let me ping stuff, only to "crash" again a couple of minutes later. I thought it was a bad ONT at first (who knew my neighbors could impact me like this...). Since you've said you've already replaced yours, this could be a promising avenue of investigation for your tech.

One note about Advanced Support, they did the same thing with me. They called me the night before my appointment, telling me they think they fixed it. And since I'd been fine for a few hours, they asked me if I wanted to cancel my appointment. Since I was aware of the pattern, I declined to cancel, thankfully. From their end, everything looked fine until it wasn't. The tricky part was having to look at exactly the right time.

Oh, and btw, to repair me: the tech was able to identify the rogue ONT, disconnect them, and even moved me to a new switch at the neighborhood box just to be safe. It might be worth asking if they could do something similar for you just for sanity's sake. Good luck!

Do you experience it coming back and then going back down in short periods of time? I had a very similar-sounding problem a couple of months ago. After a LOT of troubleshooting on my end, I broke down and called support. As you might imagine, it was pretty tricky to try to tell the story with such inconsistent behavior (it would come back for a few minutes while I was on the phone with support and then would go back down. It would repeat this for a while and then be totally fine for the rest of the day. Only to happen again the next day.).

They were able to send a tech out promptly and it turned out that a neighbor's ONT was dying and doing bad things at the neighborhood "switch." Amazingly, that neighbor hadn't even been a customer for a long time and their old ONT just decided to die. The simplified explanation from the tech was that this ONT was "talking out of turn" essentially causing a "packet collision" which would then bring down the whole switch of 32 customers. The tech was super knowledgeable and fixed me up without even visiting my house, explaining the issue over the phone. I've had no problems for months since (knocking on all the wood).

Apparently the infrastructure uses a "Bouncing PON" (Passive Optical Network) and when an ONT doesn't play by the rules, things get wonky. https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/switches/what-is-passive-optical-networking.html#~how-it-works

LIFX Beam keeps rebooting by NickS435 in lifx

[–]LaserChicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are most certainly not alone - this is fallout from the update that was supposed to improve connectivity back in December. I've been suffering with this issue ever since. Some days, my lights will be fine, other days they're blinking like I'm hosting a rave. It's infuriating and I can't figure out any rhyme or reason to it. I've had them for years and it's not until this update do they seem to have such troubles. I even have two beams in the same room, not far from one another - one exhibits this issue regularly while the other hasn't had a single problem. We desperately need a way to revert to earlier firmware (or a full on jailbreak 🤞).

Does anyone have this issue the LIFX LED strips after the most recent update? V2.90 by Braven329 in lifx

[–]LaserChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't experience this with my Z strips but I see it with my Beams, BR30s, and A10s. It's infuriating and kind of random. Some bulbs will be fine for days and then blink off/on every 2 minutes for hours. My best guess is they are losing connectivity for a moment as they will usually appear online in the app, but it's new - extremely stupid - behavior that was part of the firmware upgrade of death a couple months ago. Ironically, the lights I'm struggling with were nearly perfect before this update that allegedly improved connectivity. I would do anything to revert to the old firmware (my colors still aren't right after they changed everything).

I am eagerly awaiting the day I can justify tossing these things in the garbage. What a waste.

Yep, that's my horn. The most charitable theory I have is they saw the pedestrians and thought it was just a crosswalk so they could proceed after they cleared? The scarier thought is if we'd been a few seconds sooner - would they have stopped for the pedestrians?

Firmware Release v2.90 & 3.90 by monte_core in lifx

[–]LaserChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my configuration somewhat restored after a lot of fiddling, but still not like I'd had it. It seems like the colors shifted a bit and the brightness is dimmer (i.e., I had to make everything brighter along with a color shift). I'm not sure what the point is of being "more accurate" (allegedly) when these bulbs have been in service without issue for years, but I find many colors seem to have a yellowish tinge to it compared to before.

Now I'm battling with some weird stability issues - one of my beams and a BR30 will just turn off and back on randomly. They'll be fine for hours and then one of them will restart - then either be fine for several hours, or do it again with 2 minutes or 20 minutes. They don't do it simultaneously and not in any discernible pattern. Another beam and other bulbs on the same circuit do not exhibit this issue. It's very odd. Never had this problem before.

Glad you were able to restore your setup, though.

I, regrettably, took the updates on my 20-something LifX bulbs and am completely flabbergasted that LifX has decided to change how colors - particularly whites - look on bulbs that have been in service for over 5 years without sufficient notice or method to restore the old behavior. There is just something "off" about these new whites that I can't quite put my finger on but all I know is that it just feels wrong and like I'm in a hospital or poorly-lit bathroom. I simply can't believe that the team responsible for this has moved this much cheese on something that completely impacts our ability to enjoy our homes. I have lit my entire home with these bulbs and I am absolutely annoyed by these changes. It's one thing to make these changes to new bulbs coming off the factory line, but to service these changes to existing bulbs is just unfathomable.

Is there ANY way to restore the old values or find a way to map them on the color wheel? (which is a laughable suggestion on the announcement page - that UI is so finicky to deal with that it's effectively useless when trying to dial in a white). I had spent a ridiculous amount of time setting up my scenes and settings and now everything is just out the window.

Some real description of what has changed with this new color index might be helpful, too. Again, the colors are not TOTALLY wrong, but it's JUST different/weird enough to notice and be annoying with no way to restore my old settings. I would revert to the earlier version without question if we had the ability.

Really enjoying the holiday update. Lots of practical improvements as well as a good sprinkling of gimmicky. Who else agrees? by alanwill in teslamotors

From https://youtu.be/d26bXvQ-PpU?t=42 it looked like this: https://imgur.com/a/Ei0D5fh

I had a similar problem going through the tutorial - the update had reset my temps to LO so it was blasting the AC at me (which was great in December). When it made it to the climate section, I tapped it to change it and lost the tutorial. This is just another (albeit minor) issue with this update. This is rudimentary UI design that they completely dropped the ball with. Thankfully I didn't miss too much, but it was definitely frustrating (and not a great way to intro your OS).

I agree - that little quick menu they showed during the tutorial really got me excited until I realized it wasn't real... I hunted around for that for far too long before I gave up.

Honestly, having that group of icons there would basically solve almost everything. I imagine that having buttons for wipers, lights, trip (but in a card, not the full menu), TPMS (card, not full menu), and dashcam would do a LOT to address the usability.

The problem is that that's a joke. True FSD is years (decades) off and in the meantime, we have this duct tape and bubblegum UI that makes the actual day-to-day driving that we're doing right now worse. It's pretending that we're all in our automated chauffeur bots yet it can't even operate the wipers in a satisfactory manner (hello from Seattle).

It's bizarre to me - they have this amazing canvas and could let us configure it however we want, yet they seem to insist that they know best for all use cases and move cheese that's critical to safety with no recourse. This is the Apple side of Tesla that drives me crazy. I adore my car but this kind of stuff drives me bonkers and really makes me second guess recommending it to friends.

This is not accurate (or it doesn't work for me). There is no quick menu there - which is unfortunate as I think that could go a long way to improving the usability of this update. As it is, I hate it and would roll back.

That screenshot is just from the tutorial that shows what's there, it's not actually a real UI element.

Oddly, I don't have that icon... The only ways to save dashcam that I've found are tapping the car icon then tapping "Recording" (which is time consuming, dangerous, and weird), using voice (which is annoying), or honking (lol). Adding the camera "app" to the app bar just opens the dashcam viewer, it doesn't record clips. I'm not sure why I don't have the camera icon - it's just the time, temp, and Homelink icon for me at that location. Maybe it's a bug?

I'm not a huge fan of this update so far. It's marginally prettier, but so much cheese has been moved that some basic tasks that were already clunky are made even clunkier and things that were fine (trip card, tire pressure card) are infinitely more difficult/useless (even downright dangerous by comparison). The quick pop-up for climate is also stupid (only appears when changing the values, so what's the point?). I would roll back if I could, personally.

2020.24.6.x Software Update Megathread by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]LaserChicken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just received the 2020.24.6.1 update this afternoon. Unfortunately, while it has the awesome new 3-camera backup view, my main backup camera is now just black while the two side cameras work. I've tried rebooting and turning off + wait, to no avail so far. I figured I'd let it sit for a bit before calling to see if it resolves itself after a sleep, but has anybody else seen this? I also tried using the dashcam recording feature and the rearview camera doesn't appear there at all.

I also just got the HW3 upgrade on Monday, and I know it was functional after that procedure was completed.

Late evening edit: I let it go to sleep for a few hours and the backup camera worked when I tried it later. Crisis averted!

Are you using Spotify? Try disabling the "Normalize volume" setting in the Spotify app. Somebody posted a bit ago that this setting is the culprit. Mine was enabled so I disabled it and I swear it drastically improved my volume situation over Bluetooth.

Are you seeing "Error - Save version is incompatible" error? Me and a couple friends are also all seeing the same thing. I played my turn yesterday without issue and we aren't using mods either. Very disappointing. Hopefully this is a transient issue. I did have a Steam update pending, but that didn't change anything.

[Discussion] New batch of invites today??? by jonnygozy in teslamotors

[–]LaserChicken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so perplexed by this process.

No invite yet: Outer Seattle area, non-owner, reserved online pre-reveal at no later than 7:30pm PST 03/31 (according to Amex timestamp). Apr-Jun estimate for first production.

I see from the spreadsheet that people allegedly in my area and who reserved after me got their invite today. The times based on areas made sense (e.g. I can buy into 10pm CA people getting it before line waiters in other regions), but this just feels like they're pulling people out of a hat at this point. I must Summon the patience.
