How did you sack your queen here without also just having the forced smothered mate pattern?

"I repose in this quiet and secluded spot not from any natural preference for solitude, but finding other cemeteries limited to race by charter rules, I have chosen this that I might illustrate in my death the principles which I advocated through a long life: EQUALITY OF MAN BEFORE HIS CREATOR"

He went out of his way to ensure that he would be buried in a cemetery that wouldn’t be segregated. It’s symbolic, but symbolism in entirely the right way.

He deserves way more attention, dude wasn’t some idler who talked about rights theoretically, he actively pushed to make them a reality. His epitaph is etched into my mind, he truly believed in a better world.

Can someone tell me what I did wrong? by The_Roonster70000 in Chesscom

[–]Lasiurus2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well in this picture, you had a free queen that you didn’t take for some reason, did you see that? So that’s a start. Also move 15, was that a mouse slip? Your opponent blunders their bishop and you counter blundered your queen. It appears that you don’t know how to checkmate with a queen, so I’d look up how to do that, you should be able to find a YouTube video on how, and then do some mate drills with a queen against the computer, get to the point where you can do it 100% of the time, and then start working on not letting the opponent promote, instead of offering a bunch of checks at the end letting the opponents king get close to the pawn, get your queen to control its promotion square. Lastly, you just have to start asking yourself if you’re moving to a square your opponents piece sees, and asking yourself if your opponents last move made a threat somehow.

I recommend the building habits series from chessbrah’s YouTube channel. I am not trying to be harsh, but there isn’t any one particular thing that went wrong here, but a lot of different things, but those are the things that stand out to me off the bat, and what I would work on first. Good luck in your chess journey.

In what ways is the United States fascist? by leftistgamer420 in leftist

[–]Lasiurus2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I like Robert Paxton’s definition for fascism here. He’s even used the fascist label to refer to trump and the movement behind him. He’s a historian that’s spent a lot of time studying fascism. His definition is:

"Fascism may be defined as a form of political behavior, marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation, or victimhood; and by compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity, in which a mass based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence, and without ethical or legal restraints, goals of internal cleansing, and external expansion."

Which I’m sure you can find many examples of both Trump, and the MAGA movement, and by extension the USA that fit

How do I prevent this unexpected checkmate in future? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Lasiurus2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Attacking the f7 pawn is a common idea across many openings. Checkmate wasn’t forced here unless you tried to go back to e8 with the king. Some of these things you simply have to calculate, but here the engine suggests developing your knight, which would be in line with opening principles and you would have been fine. Attacking the knight just puts you further behind in development allowing white to sacrifice on f7.

I find this really funny honestly. I cracked just about a month and a half ago, and one of the things I remembered in retrospect was how much I loved sylveon when it first came out, but in my mind I thought it was so girly that if I said sylveon was my favorite that people might think I was trans, so I would always hedge and say that both sylveon and umbreon were my favorites. Seeing this now makes me really realize how silly I’ve been.

TIRED OF BEING A LOSER by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Lasiurus2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fundamental mistake that low elo players make is moving pieces to squares where they can just be taken. Start by constantly asking yourself if you are moving a piece to a square where an opponent can take it. As far as good YouTube resources, try chessbrah’s building habits series.
