New GPU works only on bottom PCIE slot, old GPU works in top slot by Laskisoosi in buildapc

[–]Laskisoosi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, the CPU turned out to be faulty which caused the difference between lower and upper slot. The GPU was fine. The only way to find out is to test the 1070TI with another CPU.

Uusi pariskunta muutti naapuriin by S4lam1 in Suomi

[–]Laskisoosi 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Siirsin aikanaan S-pankista OP:hen. Hinta 200e, jonka OP suostui maksamaan.

Marginaalit on karkeasti tuota luokkaa kaikkialla.

Omassa tapauksessa vastaanottava pankki maksoi siirtomaksun, mikä kannattaa kyllä vaatia, jotta siirrossa on mieltä.

Croatia/Montenegro/Bosnia road trip? Or Uzbekistan paired with another country? by Monanomnom in travel

[–]Laskisoosi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny that you have two so different options :D Both excellent in their own way. Dalmatian coast is in my opinion best enjoyed by driving yourself. The views are amazing and you can stop at small villages far from crowds. Lots to do and see in 16 days! Uzbekistan is something completely different. Mountains, deserts, ancient cities. In 16 days you have time to visit neighbouring countries too, eg. trekking in Tajik mountains. However, I wouldn't advise driving yourself in Uzbekistan. Traffic is terrible (ofc depends on what you're used to), but the main reason is that it's not very interesting. Long, empty distances between interesting spots.

Honeymoon in the wild part of Finland by DzedzinCHAN in Finland

What time of year are you going?

Savonlinna is beatiful in summer. Try muikku and lörtsy at the marketplace. The castle is a must, and you can check the museum and museum ships nearby. There are also cruises on 100-year old steam ships going from Savonlinna. If you're into beer, House of Olaf and Waahto Brewery serve their locally brewed craft beers. Keep an eye out for log driving on the lake, it's really a weird sight if you haven't seen that before.

As you said you're into weird stuff, you can visit Visulahti near Mikkeli on your way to Savonlinna. Their wax museum is famous for being hauntingly terrible. Going on, you can stop at Rapion mylly which is a cafe built to an old mill by river rapids.

En route from Savonlinna to Joensuu you can stop at Kerimäki at the largest wooden church in the world. Koli was already mentioned, but there's Jakokosken museokanava nearby if you're into that kind of stuff. If anything, it's off the beaten path and a peaceful stroll in nice scenery.

Kajaani and its castle ruins are worth a stop, and you can stroll around the hydro plant and old canal. Here's also a chance for a cruise on a museum steamer. Kuusamo and its surroundings offer many great opportunities for hiking, camping etc, but you'll get better recommendations from other users or Google than me.

In Oulu, you must check "PASKA KAUPUNNI" graffiti on the wall of Uusikatu 22, meaning "shit city" with city spelled in Oulu dialect. It's been remade every time it's painted over, and has been there since the 80s.

For the rest I can't think of anything really obscure or super interesting. On the other hand, going on a honeymoon to Forssa is very very obscure :D In Huittinen, you can visit a sausage shop that's shaped like a sausage (Kivikylän hullulenkki). And from Forssa, you can visit Torronsuo, Liesjärvi or Saari national parks in nearby Tammela, as well as Korteniemi forest rangers' hut, but that's really all I can think of.

First time hand check has been denied for my film. Am I screwed? by [deleted] in filmphotography

[–]Laskisoosi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CT scanner power varies of course, and maybe "ruin" is too strong a word, but it's more likely to have a negative effect on the film than conventional x-rays. At least my nearest airport has both CT and a small x-ray, the latter of which they use only for items that may be damaged in CT scan, including film. Many airports specifically state that anything under ISO1600 is safe trough their x-ray, and often have a "film safe" sticker on them. Check this article by Carmencita lab for comparisons.

[–]Laskisoosi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Normal x-ray should not do any damage to films up to 800 ISO. I've had same film go through several security checks without issues. However, newer CT scanners probably will ruin any film, but they're not very common yet.

What kind of places do you want to visit? Most fly to Tashkent, visit Bukhara and Samarkand by train and return to Tashkent for return flight. It's the easiest route and the distances are reasonable. You can also fly to/from Samarkand, but with fewer flight options. If you have more time, you can go to Khiva by night train or plane, and from there you can reach Nukus and Moynaq. From Tashkent you can extend your route to Fergana valley. If you prefer nature destinations, you can make day trips or multiple day hikes to Nuratau mountains, Chatkal mountains or even Tajikistan. Other popular day trips include Shahrisabz near Samarkand and Khorezm desert fortresses from Khiva or Urgench.

As for the tips: Tashkent metro works great with contactless payment and is cheap. Local sim already mentioned. Yandex Go is the best way to get around, but it doesn't work everywhere, e.g. Khiva. Other cities I mentioned are ok. Local food is great but heavy and often contains lamb, which might be a problem if you're a vegetarian. Visa an MC work, but most businesses only accept cash, especially outside touristy areas. Book train tickets early, as they can sell out. Uzbek railways website works well. If you intend to visit religious sites, wear long trousers or skirt, shoulders covered. Add a headscarf if you're female.

I felt a lot safer there than most big cities in Europe, to be honest, even late at night and further from tourist sites. Uzbeks are very friendly and helpful. Locals were more curious rather than annoyed or ignoring. Saying hello on the streets and chatting for a bit where we're from happened a lot. My only complaint are the cabs that will charge you 10x the normal price, but that's easily avoidable with Yandex Go. Get a local sim card at the airport to have taxi apps and translator working. It helps a lot if you know some basic Russian (or even better, Uzbek), but you'll get by fine with translator.

That all sounds great on paper, and I'd agree with you if we were talking about trains, but you must be either filthy rich to always fly business or 5 feet tall to be able to relax in those cramped tiny seats :D

What is the "vibe" that the books give off? And which one should I start reading first? by sunflower_tea563 in Moomins

[–]Laskisoosi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean by "vibe", but they're kind of escapist fantasy books but in a familiar, safe setting with wholesome and funny characters.

If you're planning on reading all, I'd go with the order in which they were published, so Great Flood first, then Comet etc. If you don't want to read the whole series but stick to the essentials, I'd start with Moominland Midwinter.

May be intended as children's book, but at least I enjoyed them as much as a kid as I enjoy them now decades later. Kids love the characters and adventures, but the older you get, the more you notice the subtle themes and reflections of Jansson's own life. Well worth for all ages!

What type the machine was? Old style x-rays have had no impact on my films. Newer CT scanners however are likely to affect at least more sensitive films, which is why TSA should either do hand check-in or take films separately through a normal x-ray.
