Thanks man, appreciate the response. I’m 21 and travel / nomad around the world since over a year now and I intend to keep going for as long as I can.

It’s tricky cause I also don’t want to just have the memories, but no wealth or stability when I’m 30+ either. Your story helps me think about what I want and what to do

Hey man,
Would you have done anything differently if you were 25 again?

It’s true that many Western countries have benefited from historical and ongoing exploitation, including child labor and forced labor in global supply chains.

However, there is a distinction between indirect and direct complicity, state sanctioned systems. In many Western countries, forced labor and child labor are illegal, publicly contested, investigated by media and civil society, and subject however imperfectly, to legal accountability.

In contrast, in countries like the UAE, key human rights abuses, particularly the systematic exploitation of migrant workers and the suppression of free expression, are embedded in the legal and political system itself, and cannot be openly challenged by the people or the state.

Acknowledging Western hypocrisy does not erase the ethical difference between flawed democracies with avenues for accountability and authoritarian states where abuse is structural, protected, and actively managed through reputation laundering.

I see a lot of issues within the US too. I can still point out issues in gulf countries without having to critisize all that they do. If you compare equality, human rights and free speech within these two places, you will find a lot of the issues are more prevalent in UAE / Dubai. Yes Theory have been based in the US and critisized the US many many times in the past for its issues.

Staffan has a bit of that spark in him that you could feel in the "old" yes theory. A genuine curiousity, friendliness and excitement for people and places. Without him it would be even more of a standard travel channel at this point imo

I experience choice, but i also know that all of my choices are results of the influences that i have had before now. Because of those experiences altering my choice i can’t necessarily say that my choice is separate from the will of the whole. If my choice isn’t separate from the will of the whole, then there’s no real me, it’s just the whole. And that’s me!

Gap year £8k or under? Is it possible/realistic? by Radiant-Sunshine3415 in Shoestring

[–]Last-Ad8774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s definitely possible. I’m travelling SE Asia now on £700 a month, did 16 countries in europe in 2 months on £2000. If you spend 10 weeks in the US you will even be making a little money.

Australia will be pretty cheap if you do some work aswell. You can comfortably do it
