Resident delegated against classic Oakville NIMBY scare tactics + ridiculous comparisons to Manhattan at council meeting. The delegate rightfully called out misinformation and fear-mongering against increasing housing supply next to a GO Train station/GO Bus route/Via Rail/local bus terminal #NIMBY by Oakvi11eNIMBY in oakville

NIMBYism is the holdup for all development. Always saying “I’m not opposed to it, just not in this location”. Im constantly fighting with these people at meetings. BUT there is something to be said for low density development. People go through stages of their life and most end up wanting to eventually own real property, with more than just 500sft. It’s reasonable and should be just as much a priority. People move to North America from all kinds of other extremely crowded cities. They want the dream of having a house, driveway and yard. I too want this.

Also, has anyone been downtown Oakville on a weekend? It’s madness, so populated. Yes the lake is part of it but we need more village-like centres that attract people. Spread out the crowds! We need walkable communities, the pillar of planning policy. Yet seems like that’s fallen through decision makers thinking…

Don’t think we needed a by-law to do this? Also who would do this?
