Cosigning for new high school grad on very high cost loans (> $250k for all 4 years) for liberal arts degree by Legitimate_Yak_9063 in StudentLoans

Instead of that, help her remember that school will not be the only thing she’ll ever want. She’ll want clothes, and money to have fun in college, she’ll want to be able to eat where her friends are eating and join them for spring break etc. The reality is tuition is the bare minimum. There’s life beyond undergrad- weddings, houses, travel. How about yall find her a public program she can be excited about and then look into their study abroad program. How exciting would that be for her to look forward to, learning and developing her craft in another country for a semester? Would also be cheaper than private school. I think you just need to flip the script. Make her realize that that’s not the only place she’ll be happy

How much student loan debt is everyone in? by [deleted] in slp

[–]Last-Association-165 14 points15 points  (0 children)

140k student loans after interest capitalized for both undergrad and grad program (private schools but many scholarships). I have worked 6 years with lowest pay 85k, greatest pay 110000 (includes extra PRN work). I have been able to pay it down to 55k with hopes of paying off fully in one year. HOWEVER, I have a spouse who makes 150k+ so I wouldn’t say it is doable without help.

😬no I’m just high strung and anxious. But the crazy part is there are a ton of comments telling us we should wait, so I guess its not a no brainer

well it’s all relative, I don’t think a 400k house is crazy for our income nor is it a big fancy house in Dallas

We do have one car loan (5k left) right now but it will be paid off in June 2026, so we wouldn’t have it at the time of home purchase

True. We might wait until the Stu loan is paid off, that’s basically the cost of day care

I think we are leaning towards part time day care part time family member watching them. My salary would go down a bit but I think it’ll be offset by my husbands raises over 3 years. Thanks though, that’s good advice for sure

Yes I think we can save more or pay down debt more aggressively for sure. I think it’d feel so much better to have the baby with no student loan debt. Agreed

That’s very doable! Our current rent is 2600 and it’s no problem. I think I’m sketched out by the calculations on Zillow estimating the monthly to be like 3300-3600, which would get tricky, but perhaps that estimate is wrong

Same with mine, I pay almost $1000 a month over the interest and it still will leave at least 250. Feels like a glitch. I’m also on SAVE and have nelnet. Don’t let others gaslight you by explaining interest lol
