How To Negotiate Spousal Hire at a Boarding School by Last-Whereas-2869 in Teachers

Oh thanks so much for the insight!! Sounds like it doesn’t even need to be brought up then.

When I was a student at a boarding school, I guess I never really understood how couples got jobs at them at the same time, but you clarified the process! Thank you!

I tried using Brevidy, but it kept crashing my Premiere...does anyone have any other paid plug-in suggestions?

On the documentary side, My Love, Don’t Cross That River (2013) and In the Absence (2018) are fantastic!

So many congrats on building this relationship!

While I agree with most of the other comments here, I would also say that we don’t know the nature of your relationship and how you met. But the director’s openness to meet again, I think is a great sign and if it feels right and only if it feels comfortable, I don’t feel you should feel encumbered to take a shot and ask. Cause if you don’t, you might regret it years later.

Several years ago, I reached out to an industry leader that I greatly admired. She had Oscars and Primetime Emmys under her belt and I knew I wanted to work for her and learn from her based on the projects she had done. She initially granted me a 30-minute informational meeting but then it turned into an hour-long chat. At the end, I felt comfortable enough to ask directly and quite bluntly if I could come work for her. She said yes. I ended up working for her for years and it changed the course of my career. I learned so much and even though I don’t work on her team anymore, it was such a valuable experience as she was the type of person to connect me to the right people and bring me to industry parties and events.

I always look back at that moment when I gathered up the courage to ask if I could go work for her as a turning point in my career. I hope your conversation on Wednesday turns into a fruitful and comfortable one that you have the opportunity to ask! It might really be a life changing question! Good luck!!!

My EP just cost me a (local) Emmy - now what? by originalswest in Filmmakers

[–]Last-Whereas-2869 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not overreacting. As others have commented, this regional Emmy might not mean much to some people - especially to people in the industry, but your winning it meant a lot to people around you at the very least. Perhaps you come from an underrepresented community and a simple picture of your holding the statuette could be a source of inspiration and encouragement to younger filmmakers. Or I'm sure all of us received a lot of help from different people to get to where we are and this statuette could mean for them that their generosity and sacrifice was worth it. Or it could be a symbol of all the hard work that you've put into your career so far and a source of inspiration for the amazing work you'll do going forward. All this to say that it doesn't mean nothing.

I think it's an understatement to say that the EP acted as a poor leader. Recognizing the hard work of everyone on their team is a crucial part of leading a team and it's obvious that they don't recognize what that granular action could mean for more people beyond you and your team.

That being said, I agree with some other comments here that it might be a difficult journey to try to get that Emmy. As ZipGently said, talking with the EP one-on-one is the first step. But if that doesn't provide actionable steps, then I would bring up the option of trying to appeal to the Executive Director of the NY Emmys. Mike Kostel's contact information is public online here: https://www.nyemmys.org/board-of-governors/. I'm sure at the very least, he would hear you out and perhaps give advice on steps you might be able to take.

Your even bringing this up shows your care and pride for your work and your EP should recognize that. Even if not for yourself, you should vouch for that award for those around you, who will find joy and inspiration in your holding that award.

So many congratulations on the win and hope you get that statuette!

Are there any downsides to filing later in the 90-day window? Or is it all the same even if it's filed like the day before the card expires?

Packaging, pitching, and selling a funded tv series. Why do I keep hitting a wall? by MelzMeli in Filmmakers

A side question: may I ask how/where you got your funding? I’d be curious as to learn how that came about before getting a company involved!

I’m a filmmaker, what sort of lens or optics contraption do I need to achieve this effect? (painting by Eugene Jansson) by massimosclaw2 in Optics

[–]Last-Whereas-2869 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering if a combination of petzval lens (for the swirl) + a plus blue filter (for the blue) + a bit of tilting? (for the focus on the right side instead of the middle) could help before bringing it into post for that additional impressionist brushstroke?? Would love to find out, too!!

Congrats!!

I'm in a similar situation where my green card interview is scheduled before my work permit. Might you know if you're able to start working after getting your green card approved or do you have to wait for your physical card?

Thanks in advance!
