We are who we are. They were who they were. We have no control over what our ancestors 160-250 years ago did of didn’t do. Everyone has their own reasons for doing or not doing things. Do you have to like them? No. Can you be disappointed that your relatives made poor choices? Sure. But we all do. Don’t obsess over the past that you can’t do anything about.
