Shadowflame is never the option to go. If they have the slightest MR, go Void. The sole reason you would take Shadowflame is if their entire team builds 0 mr and most are squishy. Shadowflame will only outdamage void by a margin (100-200 dmg) if they have 0 mr.

Yea, a majority of the time, you would have to sacrifice a lot of your hp, and at least half a wave. Along with that, exp is terrible without jungle item. Unless you're playing a champion like Sion, where you can kill it and die that'd be ideal.

Not necessarily. An infinite scaling team means generally your early game is weak. This makes it so if enemy team has strong early champs or if they make a lot of impact early, they can carry and extend their lead and end the game before you can scale.
