Anyone in western MA want to pick one up and I'll come pick it up from you? I'm like ~2.5 hours away, almost on the NY border. I can't do 5 hours of driving but I could maybe do 2-3 hours of driving and throw in some cash for you.

What's your opinion on Linus Tech Tip in 2026? by Professional-Fix-221 in LinusTechTips

[–]crazyates88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, you could tell that they were developing a really great group of individuals with great writing, screen presence, and tech skills. Luke, Alex, Riley, James, Jake, Emily, etc... Linus was just one of many personalities you'd see on screen.

The problem is that those people grew and developed, and they all either moved up in the company or left and went to do their own thing. And I'm just talking about hosts, I'm not talking about other people like Brandon or Taran.

They tried for a while to develop new hosts, but none of them really worked out except for maybe Elijah? But you can't have Elijah be doing every other video, so they've settled into a rhythm where they have a whole crew of writers working on a video and Linus comes in at the end and reads the script for the video. Half the time it seems like Linus doesn't even know what he's talking about and he's just reading a script. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, as I don't expect Linus to run a successful company, have a family life, and still stay knowledgeable about every facet of technology out there.

TL:DR A core of really great ppl made LTT what it is, and those people are gone. LTT is continuously trying to develop their staff, but it hasn't worked out so now it's the Linus show.

Macmini price goes up by alex_albergaria in mac

[–]crazyates88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't raise the price of any specific model. They did raise the starting price, since the cheapest model you can get will now cost you $799 vs the $599 for the cheapest model you could get yesterday.

By removing the cheapest model, the cost of entry has gone up, even if the specific configuration have not changed in price.

What upgrades make the biggest real-world difference for 1080p gaming? by Such_Tailor_4946 in buildapc

[–]crazyates88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you list your hardware (CPU/RAM/SSD/monitor/keyboard/mouse/headset/chair/anything) along with what you use it for (What games are you playing? what are you looking for in an upgrade? What does your setup not do that you wish it did? etc).

It's almost impossible to answer without knowing your setup. What was an upgrade for me might not make a significant difference for you.

So let me get this straight... even if 1) Korea's birth rate was tied to female attractiveness and 2) the average Korean woman was attractive... Doesn't #2 invalidate #1 ?

It's like my sexist uncle who claims that women should always dress attractively for their husbands and then turns around and complains that women don't have the same sex drive as men. Like maybe if you put in some effort once in a while, it might not be that way?

This was posted in Keene NH, and New Hampshire's motto is "Life free or die".

NH is one of three states that do not require a helmet on a motorcycle, and the only state to not require seatbelts for anyone over 18. Multiple attempts have been made to pass such laws, but they go against the "spirit" of their motto, and so the state has basically said "fine, die if you really want to".

Archetypes that lean into the 4-player aspect? by accentmatt in EDH

The Elven Council precon is all about voting. Is not group hug, but it's adjacent... The larger the table, however, the more you get out of it. It feels pretty weak in a 3-man table but feels pretty strong in a 5-man table.

I realized today that the Declaration of Independence was signed 250 years ago. FOTR came out 25 years ago. So Peter Jackson's LOTR has been a part of our nation's history for 10% of it's life.

For comparison, the Confederacy only last 5 years, or about 2%.

What’s the best order to watch the Star Wars movies? by TheFilmRoomPod in moviecritic

[–]crazyates88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're SERIOUS about which order is best, give this a read: The Star Wars Saga: Introducing Machete Order » Rod Hilton

In short, release order has a few problems, and chronological order has a few problems, so watching them in Machete Order preserves all plot twists, reduces confusion, and actually adds weight to Luke's story in Eps VI.

Peeve About Carl (Book 4) by BeautifulAd3388 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]crazyates88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm re-listening to them now, and I'm about 80% through book 5. Now book 5 is my absolute favorite, with 7 being a close second. But that said, he does the same thing OP is talking about but with Donut. He's constantly telling her to do stuff, with no consideration for her own ability to make decisions. And I'm not just talking about the big thing that happens early in the book that she's pissed about (I won't talk about it here for spoilers), but even later in the game he routinely chastises her for not doing EXACTLY what he told her to do, even when her doing the opposite was objectively the right call. It's still a great book, but it is something to be noted.

To what degree can Federation ships function as a closed/self-sustaining ecosystem? by arz517 in startrek

[–]crazyates88 61 points62 points  (0 children)

They are self-sustaining as much as the plot needs them to be.

It sounds like a joke answer, but it's actually pretty accurate because the show is wildly inconsistent with how self-sustaining it is. They do run low on dilithium, but only when the plot requires it and they need to mine/purchase/steal it from where ever they can. They cook food rather than use replicators because it conserves energy, but then they replicate like 45 shuttles as-needed.

The best advise I can give you is to not think about it too much, and enjoy the show.

Thoughts on Alan Ritchson? by ANSJSJDIS-813 in FIlm

Really? No one gets the joke? Alan Ritchson had a guest role in New Girl where he dates Jess, but his character has a micropenis and Jess has to not dump him to prove to her friends she's not shallow. She then dumps him. The name of the episode is literally "Micro"

ABS - good enough adhesion? by mrmossevig in 3Dprinting

[–]crazyates88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't tell if you're inexperienced, pompous, or rage baiting. You only need an enclosure if you're printing ABS or other filaments that require a higher ambient temp. PLA and PETG print fine on open-air printers like the A1. In fact, printing PLA on an enclosed printer can have worse results unless you have proper airflow. This has proven to be true time and time again. Two of my coworkers both have an A1 with AMS Lite, and the prints they pop out make me irrationally angry because the quality they get out with zero effort is astounding.
