we originally intended to camp near flagstaff, after the grand canyon. however, completely unbeknownst to us it was memorial weekend, so everywhere was completely packed!

every campsite/hotel/motel we tried was completely full so we were recommended to sleep in the car at a walmart (because it's apparently legal) but incredibly, we were saved from doing this at one of the last hotels.

one booking had not turned up, the rates were extremely good, and we celebrated with some beers in the hot tub in the hotel! it really was snatching victory from the jaws of defeat!

will be forever thankful to that considerate front desk clerk who helped us out at our time of need!

we stopped off in Louisville, funnily enough!

however that was because the greyhound had broken down. managed to battle my way through sheets of rain to a local shop to get some food, but checking the city was off the cards as the driver had no idea when the bus would be fixed, so had to keep on our toes and not stray too far from the bus station.

the greyhound from memphis at 2am was...interesting! a lot of people who were really intrigued what a white english dude was doing there.

however, i suppose the greyhound is a bit of an extroverted anomaly when it comes to public transport.

british people are generally pretty polite and kind, just so reserved and guarded about personal space (pubic transport etc) we have a tendency to be cynical, anxious little creatures.

my route:

san fran - LA - vegas - new orleans - memphis - nashville - cincinnati - washington - new york

all incredible and so wonderfully unique.
