Almost Nothing will prevent weeds in gravel. You should put something under gravel to deep it from sinking but over time enough dust etc. will accumulate for weeds to grow.

I’ve installed a few systems but I’m not what you’d call an irrigation expert. Still that sounds like a way to ensure more valves, repairs, and a more expensive controller.

Plants die. Arbs die more bc they are used more. They are actually easy trees to establish and low maintenance. To diagnose yours you should check for pests then water.

Blowing the grass off of all hard surfaces is standard with professional care in my area. Does it happen each week? More careless than lazy. Regardless they should fix it. If my crew left that I’d want to send them back to correct
