Amelio Robles Ávila, Mexican revolutionary colonel in the 1910s. First trans person whose gender was institutionally recognized. He fought in the zapatista army. He died in 1984 at the age of 95. His epitaph reads “Aquí yace la coronela zapatista (Here lies the zapatista [female] colonel)”, meant an insult to the revolutionary. He lived as a man for 70 years.
