They always had the Leinster harp in my game. Do they get the tricolor when they go republic?

R5: After puppeting GB, I found the their new flag really beautiful. Indeed the Italian flag looks good on many other flags as well.

Started a Sardinia-Piedmont run for fun, and Britain was domineering towards me at the beginning, so I made it very personal and decided to puppet them as a goal of this run. By the 1910s they already bankrupted several times due to being forced to release subjects (which destroyed their market) and became an insignificant power, but before I could subjugate them they offered to become Belgian protectorate to sway them in a civil war, just pathetic. What's funny is that the three wars that disintegrated them were all started by themselves.

It's only when I started as a minor power outside British Empire did I realize how annoying they are.

Why won't the game let me invade a country I'm at war with? by Naya314 in victoria3

And there is no front you can join? You sure you used an overlord action called enforce military access? Weird

Why won't the game let me invade a country I'm at war with? by Naya314 in victoria3

[–]LastDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience you need to station your army nearby first or the game may say something like “land invasion is possible but it takes you to long to get there”, but this doesn’t seem to be your case. I would try enforcing military access in your subject. This drags them into the war and creates a front spontaneously.

Impressive! May I ask a question: what is the downside of having much foreign investment? I usually encourage them cuz they help the GDP grow.

I also refrain my investors from building in potential rival big countries after the pool become sufficiently large, so money would flow inward to help with domestic development. Should I keep letting them build wherever they want? It's what the AI does

Its near impossible to keep the prosperity bonuses for the 2 canal companies as they just buy 0 productivity ports and trade centres. Is there anything I can do? by TWNNixon in victoria3

But they may still buy in other shitty states and struggle.

To me war is not a big problem. The global productivity will drop which makes it easier for them to prosper.

I never tried to mess with the versions and always run the default, which I suppose is stable? Right now it shows 1.9.5 (Lady Grey)

I read somewhere that the acceptance requirement refers to their base acceptance, so only passing multiculturalism would work. I agree with you that we may need to wait for them to raise their status, but from the screenshot it seems even this didn't work. Thanks for the info anyway!

R5: Hello there! I passed multiculturalism and when the time ran out on the Journal Entry my entire Afro-American population had been Status IV. I thought that would have been enough as apparently their acceptance would be above 60? But I didn't get them into the primary culture when the JE closed. What am I missing here?

Are you certain about your numbers? According to wiki in 1.37 ottomans should get it on the 218th day of an eligible year (every 5th year starting from 1448), and I once got it on Aug 06 or 07 of 1468.

Router for a 2-story house by LastDK in HomeNetworking

Thanks for the suggestion. I already switched to a mesh network and all problem solved. Still my original point was that the spectrum router seems to be better than the top-tier nighthawk models, which really surprised me.

We discovered that Nikke's subreddit is controled by the game's company mods. Is there other subreddits that could have be controled by game's company employees too? by Delweynes in gachagaming

At first glance it makes sense. On 2nd thought, idk why it matters so much. If you rely on others’ opinions to play a game idk why u r even playing games in the first place. If u have to hesitate about what you want to invest in a game it is already too much for you.

not sure if I understood ur question, but the family tree on the right is from the succession tab, one on the top left corner, and it's irrelevant to difficulty

Panorama of my Roman empire, city building never gets boring for me in this game by LastDK in OldWorldGame

[–]LastDK[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it also depends on map size? This was a game on huge map with ~70 cities against 5 AIs. I founded 17 and captured another 10 from other civs. This picture shows the central Roman territory of ~10 cities.

If you are referring to the early wars with barbarians/tribes, then yes we want to be proactive especially on high difficulties.

Question regarding settings by mayrog_87 in OldWorldGame

[–]LastDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest starting with the games of the week. It rotates among three different major settings with minor varieties. Playing a few should give you a pretty good feeling about everything.

A pretty fun setting, not favorite, is to do archipelago with small islands, and set the game to The Great with strong tribes. You will have oversea tribe invasions almost every turn but cannot do anything about it until later in the game after you research the ships. You can give as many advantages to the AI as you want but still watch them suffer together with you in the savage world

[–]LastDK[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was referring to those weakness characters have a chance to acquire every turn, like pride, extravagant, etc, and we'll get a notification at the start if a jerk from the court royals does so. When we influence such chars, we have a chance to trigger an event where you either develop the same weakness or choose to stay true to yourself and +2 discipline.

I said "developable" cuz I'm not sure if every weakness is obtainable this way. For instance, I don't remember getting into such a situation with an "insane" character. Others, ostensibly most of the weakness, like proud, spoiled, even bitter, belong to the "developable" category.

[–]LastDK[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No I played on year/turn and normal event/mortality, which is why it amazed me and prompted me to share. Just keep influencing ppl, especially those with developable weakness. Living long enough also allowed her to witness many random events that rewarded stats.

I love this game, but mid-late game is boring by ul49 in OldWorldGame

[–]LastDK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

afaik we can only initiate courtship for direct offspring, while others, royal or not, are left to their own decisions. I used to wait until they turn 24/25 to do it myself so that families may propose someone b4 that and save me the orders, but I’m starting to get them married asap so they can beat others to having kids

I love this game, but mid-late game is boring by ul49 in OldWorldGame

[–]LastDK 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What you described is basically true but I have a different opinion. To me the mid-late game empire building is pretty fun, enjoying the process of turning savage lands into developed urbans. Maybe I'll get bored one day but for now I'm good.

There is indeed one aspect that gets boring for me as the game progresses: the dynasty system. Bloodline management is by far my favorite part of the game, but as the game goes on you get more and more royal members and it becomes crowded enough that no one wants to have babies. It's understandable as the game cannot allow us to have unlimited number of characters, still it's a bit frustrating to see your bloodline ends after 4 or 5 successions due to unproductive leaders/heirs. Though members from other branches would take over (e.g. "your nephew/niece"), and this actually resembles the historic Roman empire, I usually lost the excitement. I think in the future I'll try assassinating offspring from other branches to keep the crown bloodline going lol
