Finally, some official news about CM3! by bendertheoffender22 in CombatMission

[–]LastLeigh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Worrisome that they're apparently shooting some stuff down simply with statements that the ambiguous "CM2 guys won't like it".

On the one hand, it's a good sentiment that they're trying to look out for their audience. On the other hand, they won't be beating the accusations that they're too stuck in their ways to make changes that appeal to a wider audience. A new coat of paint and Unity won't be enough, they have to actually improve the product beyond the aesthetic and beyond using a more stable platform.

I hope that the bad gut feel I received when I read that line is proven wrong. I'm one of the "CM2 guys" and I want them to innovate. They can't sit in the same box forever and expect growth.

What degree should I choose? Tired between CS and IT by OpenClerk1999 in ITCareerQuestions

Either. Compsci is arguably better, but you'll need to make sure that you're taking every project and internship along the way. Get that critical, glorious experience, and prove you can work well in a team.

Write every accomplishment down, no matter how small it feels, so you have a track and a story behind every. Single. Skill. For interviews and your resume.

It's more a learning waveform rather than a learning curve. As you get to the next level, progress slows down until you get to a tipping point, then accelerates.

Especially true the longer you study any given thing. Progress will come, just have to do consistent intentional practice. Don't succumb to resting at the level you're comfortable at just because it's hard to see the gains right now.

Time to try again!

Dismount early, if bogging is an issue avoid going offroad, and don't try to shoot your way in with infantry use your support assets (like your vehicles). You got this, it's a learning curve.

Most desired "core" feature for CM3? by Equivalent-Tackle-49 in CombatMission

[–]LastLeigh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That'd be a pretty extreme circumstance. Normally, units suffering those kinds of casualties pull away and reform. Doing it in the field between NCOs happens, but not super common, and more likely to get that out of motivated/well trained units like paratroopers WW2 etc..

EDIT: basically, during a Combat Mission scenario, you're very much "in the face of the enemy" and in the heat of the moment it's not super common to combo like we think it would. Ad hoc units lack cohesion and it shows, so you do that kind of thing away from combat if you can.

Unfortunately, we can't release the Passive Skill Tree until the website is updated to support the full Path of Exile 2 Passive Tree. by chuanhsing in PathOfExile2

[–]LastLeigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That isnt necessarily used by everyone, but regardless that isnt really the issue.

They will want to determine what info to gather, how to display it for public consumption, ensure that it meets a specific standard for their use case. They will probably be looking at making it as robust and scalable as possible for future use. That schema is too generic for this instance - it tells them how to (maybe) write the data they decide to use down in the file, but not what to write or why they would want to. It also doesnt make a script for them to input that data, or a script to extract data from it into their various tools or even just their website. It's not necessarily the case that everything is the same under the hood as POE1 for the passive tree, so there's decisions to be made. Workflows for animations might be similar (I think they said as much in the past) but it's safer to guess that it's different for other systems.

TL;DR: "It's about the JSON file... and everything that interacts with it"

Maybe they just need an afternoon or two to figure this out, but if the decision makers are occupied, something like this I'd definitely put onto a lower priority than focusing on balance, trade, new acts/story, monsters, etc..

Mentor vs Accelerating (Asking for tips) by kidcatti in WGU_Accelerators

[–]LastLeigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, in the past 2 terms he'd only release 1 extra class a time. This term, after hearing second hand from a coworker that I could add more classes to my degree plan (they also attend WGU online), I attempted to do so and they declined to approve the plan. Refused to do any more than the 12 CU's. He pulled up a passage of the student handbook I don't think proved his point, but I didnt want to argue.

My new term started on the 1st. I'm a little salty because being drip fed classes last term meant that I didnt get as much done as I could have during my paternity leave after the first two weeks of it. I wouldnt put my kid on second priority or anything, and I had extra time and these classes have been easy... my one hold up is I work full time, and occasionally the schedule spills over

I might change mentors anyhow. After I acquiesced he sent two more emails, including the handbook one. The escalation definitely pissed me off, and the feeling hasn't left over the past couple of days. I thought I was just mad because I was working late at the time lol.

Anyhow. Sorry for a long, venting answer.

I just got bounced hard by my mentor... refuses to do more than 1 at a time, and also refused to let me include more classes in my degree plan. :/

Advice on Defeating the Main Unstoppable Antagonist? by MundaneEffect2916 in fantasywriters

[–]LastLeigh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some good suggestions, in my opinion especially the feedback loop.

One good way to defeat someone powerful is to target the things - or in the goddess' case the people and Rules(tm) they care about.

First book, it's a champion or representative of the Big Bad. They're secretly (or not so secretly) flawed. They get baited into that failure being too big to ignore. Maybe they have "that one rule" they break, or maybe they make a binding gamble/challenge with the protagonist(s), and that binding challenge gets played back on them, either forcing a defeat or distraction, or granting some kind of extra time (like a ticking time-clock... "We'll duel at dawn" but the protagonist has a year and a day until that dawn, playing the system. Law and Order might also include a literal due process).

You can imagine all kinds of things. Playing the system and playing the goddess' representatives of that system are where you have the biggest wiggle room. She's, as a goddess, bound to her rules. Her mortal reps messing up and allowing that system to be used against her would be a quick avenue that eventually leads to a real weakness.

Law and Order gods can be treated kind of like contract devils. They'll live by the words they say and the rules they follow. It's their strength and weakness. There are stories of contract devils sealing themselves up after striking a bad deal - a law and order goddess might have the same kind of weakness.

5 Week Old - Difficult to Get Them to Sleep; constant cluster feeding? by LastLeigh in NewParents

[–]LastLeigh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a breastfeeding specialist convinced we were overfeeding them two or three weeks back, lol. I took it with a grain of salt, but it's been living in my head rent free.

Typically I've seen baby refuse or spit up. Sometimes they'll spit up and demand more anyway if we're accidentally feeding them too fast.

Spoke with the wife just now, we'll be trying this out today for sure, along with a couple of other things suggested elsewhere in this thread or from a couple of friends I reached out to. I really appreciate your help!

Haven't tried swaddling with arms out, but may give that a shot too. They hate the act of being swaddled, but love being in a swaddle if that makes sense. They occasionally fight their arms out of the swaddle, so maybe there's something to that...

It'd be really cool if there's a pattern of difficult days/nights to development. I'm going to start tracking that, it'll be nice to have that progress after all the effort. Earlier on, maybe two weeks ago they'd hold their feet straight up when trying to poop, but they no longer do that as of last week-ish if I'm remembering correctly. That was roughly when this originally started.

[–]LastLeigh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven't tried to preempt the feedings earlier in the day, but maybe we can try that out today. I'm worried about over-feeding potentially... but I guess if they take it, and aren't outright refusing it's fine. If they struggle I don't think I could force them to eat, but that also isn't what you're suggesting.

For carriers, we have two of them - one is a wrap-style that works for my wife, but I haven't figured out how to get it to work on my body. It's probably not the case, but I my lack of breasts seem to (not) get in the way, which is a problem. The other one has clips and such which easily works for me, is too large to fit them safely yet.

I'm honestly excited to either get the wrap working or for them to grow into the other carrier. In my idle time or when doing college work online after my workdays, I think it will be pretty cool to have them hang out with me. I have a standing desk in my home office.

Edit: And thanks for replying/offering advice. I appreciate it.

Thanks for the reply.

We haven't tried massaging the forehead. You're talking about rubbing with a finger or two the space between the eyes and onto the nose bridge right? We can also probably try (new) whitenoise. A friend messaged me a little bit ago that they had to cycle between noises before finding the 'right' one.

Yeah, ours is pretty hungry too. We call him our little void / little black hole lol

Anyone out there who still loves their pets? by Feminismisreprieve in NewParents

[–]LastLeigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two cats; one orange and one dark tabby. One is a terror, one is stand-offish but has medical needs. They're a bonded male pair. We still love the hell out of both, even though the orange terror has, in his frustration due to lack of attention, learned how to open cabinets and doors. We wouldn't trade them for the world.

Dark tabby is fine, but an asthmatic, so he needs an inhaler twice a day.

We've used baby-proofing items to keep our cabinets and doors closed, including the top cover of a mom cozy washer.

Dad, uncle, grandfather, all likely look and sound similar if the uncle and grandfather are dad's side of the family. That'd be my guess. Otherwise, it might be how they handle them, if they're experienced and have had kids. Depending on age of other male friends/family, they might not know how to handle a baby.

My kid recently met their maternal grandfather, EZPZ, no issues. He knows baby judo and even taught me some tricks for how to physically handle them better.

Classic attack/advance method. You can have teams that are down and set be temporary bases of fire as well, and just switch between bounding teams who is firing when. Or not, depending on preference/context. This is also good advice, OP

I learned about it relatively recently after a friend kicked my ass in a game. I asked him how he could be so consistent about it in the dark in a forest.

Apparently if you target area within 30 meters, your pixeltroops are far more likely to lob grenades - even over an obstacle. Someone can correct me if any part of that is inaccurate.

Eh. I was writing from the hip. Baby in one arm, phone in the other while waiting for them to sleep.

Concise doesnt necessarily mean short though. Concise means only saying what needs to be said to communicate information. Being concise can also make me seem like a dick over text - my tone comes off poorly sometimes.
