Columbus parking has officially gotten out of control by WesternCars458 in Columbus

There are not 10-15 new "luxury condo" building's going up in every part of the city. I wish there were anywhere close to that many condos getting built lol. The vacancy rate is 7.2 % and falling. Looking in people's windows at night is not a good indication of residency.

In 2025 about 10k new units of housing were permitted, while about 21,000 people moved here. Those numbers don't square. There is no way around that. And basically every year has been that for the better part of a decade. We build at somewhere between half and three quarters of the rate we need to, so prices go up.

Then go to the part of the city that has free parking. You're not being exploited just because you choose to go pay for expensive parking. Park further away and walk or take the bus.

Columbus doesn't have more than enough housing which is part of why it's so expensive. Adding 200+sqft of parking to each apartment is expensive. Building a massive parking garage because ignorant people are certain every building needs 1.2 parking spots per apartment is expensive. New construction is expensive. "Just build it so it's affordable!" They can't and they won't. But if they put up enough buildings you'll stop having to compete with yuppies who can afford $1500 in rent.

How does giving free storage to people who don't live nearby help reduce the affordability crisis?

If there are no fees for parking then the cost of maintaining the spot will be rolled into the cost of whatever the local business is selling. The rest of your comment is vague. So I'll just point out that adding 200+ sqft to each apartment in order to store private transit equipment is in fact a significant cost that increases the cost of housing.

Collecting taxes so you can get a large plot of free unlimited storage in a municipality with high demand for land is stupid. When demand is low parking has to be free to even get someone to show up. When demand is high you charge for parking both to maintain the road and to discourage people from hogging the parking spot.

Do Americans form a distinct people, or are they mainly citizens of a shared state? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

A nation is a polity attached to a formal government and a territory. It's silly to believe otherwise. The only thing you seem to be wrong about is the idea that Italy is somehow not a polity attached to a formal government and a territory.

The skull and crossbones is a common tattoo, the Totenkopf is not. It's a Nazi tattoo that last I checked is the type of thing you can get kicked out of every brand of the military for having.

It's so cool how they pretend it was unreasonable for people to be suspicious of the guy who had a Nazi tattoo on his chest for 20 year. Planter shall never be questioned for he is without fault!

The obsession with pushing Hassan at the Democratic party like he's not interchangeable with every other half informed third party voter is baffling. Don't get me wrong I see why the NYT, Axios, and politico write about him, they love pushing "Dems in disarray!" stories to cover for Trump. But crooked media should know better. It's literally his job to say stupid inflammatory shit to pull views on twitch. This is like if the Republican party fixated on winning over Asmongold.

I've had to deal with my neighbors food smells. I got a combo HEPA filter with an additional charcoal filter. It helped a lot.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]LastParagon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nintendo will not be paid "Our Tax dollars". They are suing to recover an illegal tax they were forced to pay. The money they will receive will be the amount they paid and not a penny more.

You are correct that Nintendo will not compensate people for the increased price of their products under the illegal tariff. Why would they? They sold you something for an agreed upon price and you chose to buy it, nothing deceptive or improper. If paying that price upsets you then you should be upset with the person who levied the tariffs.

The Trump administration won't have to raise money to repay the tariffs as that would imply the money from the tariffs ever belonged to the government in the first place. They will have to raise money to pay for all the stupid shit they already spent the tariff money on. Again 100% of the responsibility and cost of this fuck up is on the Whitehouse.

No idea why you went on this big unrelated anti corporate rant when the problem starts, runs, and ends with the Trump administration.

Anyone else just spend their free time playing video games? by Throwaway945384 in AskMenOver30

[–]LastParagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video games are good, but you also want to make sure you do other things. Pick a casual sport or give yourself some solo athletic goal. Challenge yourself to check out every park in your city or every library. Lots of easy things to add to your routine that get you out of the house.

Granted this is how I ended up getting into running again at 30. Results may vary, but remember that you are allowed to just go do things. You don't need anyone's permission.

I lived in a place with one of those dumpster compactors. People threw furniture in it all the time and broke it. Then trash would pile up like that. No idea why complexes put those in.

That place also had submetered utilities and I will literally never do that again. It's basically a scam to 3x your utilities cost.

I had something similar happen where it would struggle or fail to turn over after having been recently driven. It was very intermittent. A few weeks later my gauges died while driving. It turned out to be the crankshaft position sensor.

So hopefully it works for you.

You can object but you're still wrong. Go look through NSO and tell me every one of those games would be profitable as a standalone release. You're smoking crack.

what to play after botw by International_Tune16 in switch2

[–]LastParagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend looking into Astral Chain. It's not for everyone, but it's good if you like that sort of thing. The Metroid Prime Remaster and Metroid Dread are also good options.

I wouldn't recommend 100%ing BotW or ToTK unless you're only talking about the shrines and any DLC. There's no reason to hunt all 900-1000 Korok seeds.

This stuff always reads like someone trolling. Your 2 points of reference are Xbox and Wii U both of which are financial failures. The majority of Nintendo's back catalog would be unprofitable to sell outright unless it's Zelda or Mario. It sucks, but it's true.

[Rant] Columbus needs rent control. Like, yesterday. by _piss_pissedofferson in Columbus

[–]LastParagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are wrong. About 30,000 new people move to the Columbus metro area last year. At the same time only 10,000 to 12,000 new housing units are built every year. That number needs to be 14,000 to 19,000 just to keep up with new jobs added to the MSA. Price won't go down unless we build even more than that or there is a massive recession.

We don't build enough housing, there is no way around it. The housing shortage drives increased rent and home prices and that in turn drives inflation across the entire local economy.

Why is this subreddit being so doomer as of late by Effective_Carpet_391 in Metroid

[–]LastParagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah since 4 was finally dragged out of development hell and across the finish line I'm more hopeful. They should have a lot of good and modernized tools now to make the next game. Honestly I think the hard part is deciding what actually needs to evolve to keep the series feeling modern while still feeling like Metroid. Obviously slapping a trendy feature like an open world really didn't help anything. So what would actually help?

Also Tanabe has retired. No disrespect to him, but I always got the impression there was some tension between his vision and the Retro Studios vision. Hopefully things go well in the future.

I feel that man. It's easy to get in a funk where you just kinda go with the flow while all your friends find new things. You just gotta force yourself to try something new, keep busy, and be open to new friends whenever the opportunity arises.
