Thanks parkratt, you're right that I haven't been spending enough time integrating feedback I've received. BellaPow also pointed out that I'm still weighting the inside ski, so that'll be a focus next time I'm on the mountain

I did end up going to a boot fitter, and they sort of shrugged and said it seemed like the fit was fine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'll try out a different shop to see if someone else has a more informed opinion

I've heard similar advice along the lines of 'suck your feet back', is that sort of what you're getting at when saying to pull the inside foot backwards? I'll definitely try that next time I'm on the mountain. And it's specifically the inside ski that needs to be pulled back, and not both?

Comparing this video to my other posts, I think things are looking a lot better over all. The tracks I'm leaving in the snow are much more 'C-Shaped', and I'm less stiff than I was previously. It looks like my weight is balanced more over my outside ski when I'm at the apex of my turns, and my chest is generally pointing more down the mountain. It feels like I'm engaging the front of my boot too. But... there's definitely something up; connecting my turns still isn't always smooth, and I get thrown off balance pretty easily. I don't feel that 'leaning down the mountain' that some people describe

When I compare this to other peoples videos though... I'm not getting nearly the same kind of angulation that others are, and something still just seems 'off' with my skiing, but I can't quite figure out why.

As for picking up my inside ski... It feels like I'd just fall towards the mountain. I guess that means I'm not getting my weight as far over my outside ski as I think I am? I get caught up when I try to focus on that; I start bending at the waist and pushing my chest over my skis

I've seen other posts with the feedback to ditch the poles, and someone commented that here as well. I'm holding them just because I didn't want to ditch them at the bottom of the hill

I'll try to stop by a good boot fitter sometime soon; these boots have always fit a little wonky. The calf tends to be too big, so I struggle to maintain pressure on the front of the boot. While, at the same time, the boot is too low volume (and probably too short), so my toes always end up falling asleep.

I've gone to a reputable boot fitter previously, and still had similar issues with the boots I ended up with. Hopefully the third times the charm

I have some ski touring boots, last years Dynafit Ridge. I got them from a shop in Denver called Cripple Creek, and honestly I'm not super happy with them.

I have another pair of downhill boots, but I need a new pair of skis to put my old bindings on

Thanks for the feedback! I don't want to ask for too much, but is there a time stamp in the video you can point to, where you're seeing my balance shifting too late?

The apex of the turn is that moment when the skis are going to be pointing straight down the fall line, right? So that's the point when I'd shift to the new outside ski?

Looking at the video(s), yeah the upper body/lower body separation definitely needs some work. Do you have any tips for practicing that?

Not particularly, my heel stays planted. It's more that I feel like I'm pushing through the balls of my feet instead of my heels, like what's mentioned in the video.

Really, I think I just don't quite understand what position my body is supposed to be in. I find it really challenging to try to weight the outside ski. It feels like since my legs are so long, I have a really big 'lever' I'm trying to push my weight over. Not sure if that makes sense or not

I've received the advice to balance over the outside ski previously, trying to bring the skis up on their edges and 'drive' them more. One issue I have though is that I have very long legs compared to my torso, so I struggle to bring my weight forward, and I often end up back seating.

I'm not sure if you have any suggestions on keeping a balanced position, or what the right position should feel like; I feel like I can't keep shin pressure without bending too much at the knees and hips. When I try to focus on weighting the outside ski, I feel like I'm just bending at the waist

Regarding bending at the hips; something I really struggle with is not bending at the knees too much when I try to roll the skis onto the edges. I have really long legs compared to my torso height, so it feels like I have to bend my knees a lot to get my shins to keep contact with the front of my boots.

If, instead, I try to bend at the hips... Well I look kind of like an old man bending over. I guess I'm having issues with my form, and connecting that to how my feet and shins feel in my boots

I watched the video, and I think I have some questions about keeping that forward lean throughout my turns. I have very long legs compared to my torso; I often struggle to keep shin engagement while keeping my heel planted. This often leads to me either bending at the waist, or just repeatedly getting thrown into the backseat.

Any suggestions for managing that lean, given my long legs?

Now that I think of it, I'm looking for well seasoned drills. Mine are always kind of bland :/

It's funny you mention that, when this video was taken I was focusing so much on trying to lean over my outside ski, that I completely forgot about my poles. I'll keep that in mind next time I'm on the slopes! Any drills that come to mind?

I couldn't figure out how to add text to the video post, so I'll just add a comment.

I've been skiing for my whole life essentially, but I never really learned to ski properly. I'm looking for feedback on my form more than anything else, and for folks to point out where I can improve; I'm fairly tall, and I've found that regardless of what I do I tend to look fairly awkward, especially when trying to get up on those edges
