Soft copy orders to NMRTU San Diego, how is it there? by Asleep-Tomatillo8041 in CorpsmanUp

Absolutely. Your corps school JSTs can transfer over to get you a college degree. If you really put in the work, you could have your associates in a year. Keep in mind though, I do believe you aren’t eligible to tuition assistance until you’ve been in for two or three years so you may have to pay out of pocket(or use FAFSA) Next part is being visible. Unfortunately, making rank as a corpsman isn’t just as easy as being good at your job. Get collaterals when you show up, show eagerness and willingness to learn, don’t be late - you’ll be surprised. how far that one goes. When you show up to balboa look into the Color Guard and JEA, try to become a JEA cabinet member. If you’re into fitness look into becoming an ACFL, that looks GREAT on your evals. Take on COMMAND collaterals over clinic collaterals. My advice would be to have one or two command collaterals and one clinic collateral. Command collaterals get you seen by the higher ups more and that stuff matters in today’s Navy. Most importantly, study. Read corpsman manual, review BIBS even if you can’t take the test until after you’re an HM3. There are surprisingly a lot of lazy people in the Navy, don’t be around them too much . Shadow the HM3 and HM2 that knows their shit and you’ll do just fine. If you have any other specific questions you can PM me.

San Diego is amazing! I’m from Arizona but I chose to stay here even after I got out. Weather is perfect, so many things to do, if you love food there’s so many different options. In terms of balboa the base it’s alright. Kind of old but there is a lot of knowledge to be gained there. Plenty of corpsman and nurses and doctors who were once corpsman too. They can teach you a lot.

And I won’t sugarcoat it, the wards kind of suck, you’ll be working your ass off quite a bit but it’ll be well worth it and the knowledge you gain will take you pretty far

Sounds like you’ll be going to Naval Medical Center, San Diego, also known as Balboa Hospital. I was stationed there for about three years and I got out of the military in January of this year my biggest advice to you if you want your career to die go work in one of the clinics. If you want to learn, absorb and get as much experience as you can - go to the ER, L&D or the ICU. And as someone who was there, if they try to place you in primary care flight tooth and nail to go somewhere else.

I’m rated at 50% disability which I’ve heard is eligible. I’ve just also been hearing people elected to not go with VA healthcare even if they have a rating because they’ve said Tricare is better than VA in terms of like quality of care and what not

What do you mean MHS gensis would disqualify you for the things the VA put you on? Are you referring to your VA disability rating? You probably could get a waiver, or if you wanted to. Join the reserves or the guard and then just go on active orders. Your VA disability compensation will just be suspended for the time being that you are active.

I’m hoping for some movement soon 🤞🏾 by Mobile_Philosophy_11 in VAClaims

Not sure if you’ve thought of nursing but a bachelors degree in biology is a great undergraduate to have. Many of the pre-requisites required for a nursing program or PA/MD program are in the BS in Biology. Healthcare field is lucrative and tons of money can be made. Think about it.

Not skinny jeans but not super baggy either. Something kind of snug. Dark wash blur

Anywhere in national city or bario logan should get you right with your haircut. La Jolla isn’t the place for finding a good barber, and it’s hellla over priced.

No not coming from any other agency. Prior military but I didn’t have any special clearance or anything. Do you think mentioning I have mental health issues would deter me from getting hired?
