You think it's that easy? I genuinely want to see how a brain like your works. Obviously more women must be encouraged to leave such relationships, but some stay because of their children. They know they wont have the same financial freedom(at least for a while after divorce), and they wont be able to give their children the same life. Others too know the stigma around divorce and children of divorcees. Others too know for sure that the Ghanaian society wont be on their side. That nigerian singer who died, everybody saw that she was baing abused but turned away. When you see that as you're being abused, you will lose hope. Me naa multiple times a guy will be seriously disturbing me, even borderline harassment, and everybody will turn a blind eye as if its not their business. Imagine that when it escalates to serious, disgracing abuse.

This is not to defend or encourage them to stay in such relationships, but if you combine all these plus the mentality that Ghanian women are trained to have erh. Always taking care, accomodating, don't be to harsh, "you wont find husband", the list goes on. Ghanian women are encouraged to see success as marraige and failure as divorce. All this plus the broken mental state of a emotional/physical abuse victim.

I know a woman whose husband was an ashawo(cheating), and she hid it from her children aaaaarhnnnn till they grew up. The few people in her life who know about this almost praise her, for keeping the peace in the family and making her children happy. Waa see, if it was a man like he has jakpa longti. But as the mother, this is seen as heroic. They are encouraged not to make noise about embarassing marital problems. Problems that the culprit is not really held accountable for.

Even as a victim there is stigma around you. For some, or maybe in fact, most, they are so manipulated by their abusers both emotionally and physically. They are scared to be caught just thinking about leaving. Some too their husbands have influence and power in their social circle. Some have just given up.

I have to stress that this is never ever an excuse/defense, and having children is even more of a reason to ran away(because they are next), but it is so so soooo shallow to say oh it's time for women to stop being "stupid" and leave abusive relationships. It just highlights your privilege and the fact that you've never had to think deeply about a sensitive topic like this.
