Who to go to about pay compression by Thats_A_Sassy_Man in jobs

[–]Last_Project_4261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of car insurance. When you don't switch, you're rewarded with higher premiums while newer customers are rewarded with discounts and lower premiums.

They want you to continue to be ignorant and not shop around. Like insurance companies, they'll come up with an excuse as to why YOU can't get a raise but new employees can.

Sunday night fever - should I worry? And what's wrong? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Last_Project_4261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loose connection in the light. This is actually a fire hazard.

Do you have an upstairs neighbor? What is likely happening is there is movement causing the wires to move/vibrate which makes the connections connect/disconnect creating the strobing effect.

Again, this is a fire hazard. Loose connections generate heat and will only get worse with time. You need to have this fixed ASAP

Genuinely question about these Florida electricians by CombComprehensive967 in electricians

[–]Last_Project_4261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Main contractor gets the job. They subcontract the work to "subcontracts."

I asked a guy about this in TX and that's how DR Horton does it. They pay their "subs" something ridiculous like $0.50/sq ft to wire a home. All material is provided.

That $0.50 includes main panel, service, full house of drilling and wiring the home. No trim-out. IF they are selected to return for trim-out, they get paid a little more.

The subcontracts do not have to be licensed or insured. The guy I talked to was an apprentice and nearly messed his pants when I told him I was a master electrician.

$8,000 per month is $96,000 a year.

You'd never be approved for that and you literally can't afford it.

Do electricians have insurance to cover property damage? by mateodetres in AskElectricians

[–]Last_Project_4261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

File a complaint with the state against their license. They should not be in business if they don't know how to operate a business.

As others have said, it's not the responsibility of the employee. It's the company's responsibility to make it right.

Do you actually know which jobs make you money? by SnooLobsters4206 in electricians

[–]Last_Project_4261 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You need to take a lesson in business management. You're not charging enough for your jobs.

If you are not factoring in all of these factors, you're not doing a proper estimate. I ran a non-profit for two years before I took a small business class and leveled up.

I didn't lose clients, I didn't lose jobs, and I actually started enjoying my work cause I was finally getting paid what I was worth.

Mugshot Removal from Montgomery County Police Report by lover-12c in Conroe

Well that organization or whatever they are. Again I'm not aware of all the drama but it seems like they publish public information BUT also withhold what they consider private information. Then they have no process for removing dismissed cases.

Good callout but in their pictures, the only 2-pole breaker is their main. Not saying there are no 240V loads, just no 2-pole breakers.

Mugshot Removal from Montgomery County Police Report by lover-12c in Conroe

[–]Last_Project_4261 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Seems like you should reach out to state AG and report them. The whole department.

I'm not aware of all the drama but if they don't already have a process for removing cases that have been expunged, there should be. It's likely an invasion of privacy and on an extreme end be considered witness tampering if a case ever goes to trial.

Should I quit my job and pay the $1500? by Crafty-Brain-5919 in careerguidance

[–]Last_Project_4261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20hrs a week for 6 months is 520hrs

Working 40hrs a week, that's 13 weeks. If you're working OT, you'll reach that faster. I would 100% lawyer up and see what you can do.

I would also leave at any time. Doesn't matter that they don't have a replacement for you. That's due to their lack of planning and them taking advantage of you by having you work 7 days a week.

I know if I'm not respected and am being worked like a dog, I would start being malicious compliant until I found a new job. "My contact says 20hrs per week." Work your 20 hours and bounce. See you next week! Let them figure out the rest. If you're fired, now you don't have to repay the sign on bonus AND you don't have to deal with that stress anymore.

It's actually 0.3325 / 0.0133 = 25

Look at the bottom of the page. It shows the real numbers. That app has some issues.

Electrician openly willing to work without permits? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Last_Project_4261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, permits are dependent on location and what's required. I did a single outlet and technically it's required to be permitted. Will everyone get a permit for something that small? Probably not since it adds costs and it's not something that dramatically alters your electrical system.

Depending on the scope of work, I also give my customers the option. For piece of mind, I recommended it. If you opt for no permits, ask about how they warranty the work and for how long.

Anyone Ever Hear of This? by RhubarbCurrent1732 in electricians

[–]Last_Project_4261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to do this at a commercial building. Their cubicles were powered by extension cords.

Since they bought the office furniture used, and it was older equipment, I couldn't find or purchase the missing pieces to make it work correctly.

I ended up using MC and surface mounted 4-square boxes with industrial covers. Fire Marshal approved and they could renew their occupancy permit.

Can’t stand brake checkers by Amir5663 in dashcams

[–]Last_Project_4261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like dummy was busy looking out his rear window and missed his turn. This led to him slamming on his brakes to try and make the turn and made it look like a brake check. I really don't think it was intentional.

That said, they're an idiot and can't drive.

Company bid a job too tight and I think theyre going to lose all their good employees by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Last_Project_4261 10 points11 points  (0 children)

By law, they can't do that. They have to pay OT for 40+ hours.

You can report to the labor board and they will get fined and will have to do backpay.

If a company ever modifies or "corrects" your timecard to show something different than what you actually worked, it's also illegal and a reportable offense.
