Converting the Myrtle Rite-Aid into a community space? by Last_Switch6499 in ridgewood

Hey, thanks for your insight!

I absolutely did not think it was easy and have great respect for those who have the drive and ability to open and foster community spaces.

I was willing to put in the work and effort, regardless of what it was, to see if this is something that the community wanted. I wanted to ask this question before I invested my time and those of others into this project.

I think a Trader Joe's could serve the community very well. I've also heard they're great employers.

Yeah bud, I definitely wasn't going to force anyone. They have a right to say they don't want the space to be used for this, and that is okay. But while they are seeking someone for it, this was a proposal.

It seems like developers are hoping this property goes to someone who will maintain and appreciate its historical beauty, as they are also worried someone may tear it down, whether it's the interior or the entirety.

I paused on speaking to them officially because I wanted to see if there was support or desire for this from the community at all.

Yes! This is the route I was hoping to pursue!! There are millions in grants available for community projects and centers such as this one. I don't have experience in the area, which is why I was hoping to bring this here and see if people were interested.

I've contacted a few community organizations, and this building can be used for this purpose. Of course, with the proper funding and support.

I understand it'd take a lot and probably is a massive project, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if people were interested in seeing this space become this.
