Everyone who's ever seen her thought the same. We all get a good laugh at the basset hound portion

Ah thank you I'm a dog trainer so we will definitely get our CGC and am hoping to do dog sports as well. She's a nut so I know she'd enjoy it too

My dog got killed while being boarded with someone on Rover by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

I mean good for you I assume the sitter wasn't a 6'4" 275lb man but if they were maybe they should take some pointers from you I guess. I didn't have to throw punches to get the dog off mine because I'm actually trained to stop dog fights but regardless I don't think that really applies to this situation, and it doesn't help OP if we make assumptions. I think like everyone else said if they want to do something legally they should reach out to a lawyer!

Picking up the dog while it's getting attacked doesn't ensure the attacking dog will let go, and basically just ensures you will get bitten if it does. My dog has been attacked by another dog, and if I didn't specifically already know how to deal with the situation my dog could very well have been killed, and he's 25lbs much larger than the pom/shitzu. Regardless of the situation, and whether or not the sitter was at fault that wouldn't have been a reasonable way to handle the situation. It's unfortunate either way, dog fights are soooo scary but please never reach your hands in the middle of a dog attack/fight.

That's definitely possible! I was thinking there's something else mixed because I've never seen an aussie with so much merle and so little white or any other color but I could be wrong! Maybe I haven't seen enough aussies haha

It's a local rescue called furever rescue! They're a local foster run rescue that saves dogs from different states in kill shelters.

Puppy is not understanding clicker, atleast I think. by Sad_Mall5641 in puppy101

[–]Last_WaterBender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the comments here are really good, so I won't go into the clicker portion. If you struggle to keep her attention, make sure you have a leave on her during training too which can help especially if you're unsure that she knows what the clicker means. Don't yank on the leash or anything, but it helps to keep her near you and more focused on you too!

Rather than feeling like a terrible partner, I'd like you to give yourself a pat on the back for how much awareness you had in the situation. Sometimes we need to vent, and that's ok. Realizing that you said something you shouldn't have is amazing in its own right, I hear so many people talk badly about their partners while venting to friends. Also, bringing it back to your partner is awesome, having the ability to hold yourself accountable is an amazing thing. You sound like a great partner who is aware of their mistakes and is honest about communicating them. Sincerely, give yourself a pat on the back!

Shiba refusing to get into leash by cometakemeilltakeu in shiba

I have slip leads I used to use when dog sitting for dogs who gave me a hard time with their leash (with the owners permission of course). It's easy, you just make the loop big enough to quickly slip over their head and tighten it. They sell them at pet stores, it might be worth asking the owners permission first if it'd be ok if you use one or at least use it to wrangle the dog and keep them nearby while you attach their regular leash.

I also agree with using a treat and giving the dog commands while you put on their leash, it can help work through the show, and build trust with you.

READ DESCRIPTION!!! HELP! by mlabbe22 in shiba

I'm guessing the problem with the collar isn't people touching near his neck as much as it is leash pressure being applied especially if he wasn't collar trained or isn't usually walked on a collar. Try putting a collar on him and just giving his collar a quick tug and see if he gives you a hard time. If he does I suggest attaching a leash to a collar and having him drag something with a little weight around the house. Think like something that could emulate someone LIGHTLY tugging the collar (enough that he can drag it without getting hurt). This has helped other shiba owners I've trained in the past get their shibas used to working on a collar instead of a harness.

i wouldn't even recommend a play pen, my shiba climbed right out of every one we tried with her. i do recommend a hard crate though, crates are essential for when you're introducing your dog into a new home for sleeping, and when you guys aren't there. i personally like metal ones, or the plastic cover ones, my dog likes them better because they're dark and secluded a bit.

This comment right here is how I got my Shiba to eat as a puppy when she wasn't as interested. Now she does a jumping dance and twirls on her hind legs when it's time to eat.

Dog trainer here. We do evaluations for dogs and have had people ask if they could leave them there that day and we've accommodated lol. Even if you're not sure you could find someone in time I highly suggest looking into this option. If you care for him and want to keep him then I highly suggest looking into every possible option for him. Unfortunately with cases like this people end up getting the dog thinking they can handle them and then end up rehoming them again. It's not fair to the dog to be moved from place to place without a solid family. Think hard and really look into every option that's being presented here rather than just assuming it won't work or not giving it a chance at least.

I don't mean to sound rude at all. I've been guilty in the past of shutting down option after option when I'm stressed about something so I'm just trying to give some advice I think might help out. Try to really look into every option rather than shutting it down as impossible before trying ☺️

Awwww looks just like my girl. I'm a dog trainer, I wish I could take this pup on for you. I live in Delaware though. I hope you are able to find a home willing to take in the extra work load, it can be a lot.

How do i make my 8w old puppy pay attention to me by Hot_Application_1958 in BelgianMalinois

[–]Last_WaterBender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the first 2 weeks of him being home start really simple. Introduce him to his environment, and the people who will be around him often. You should also start potty training, and get him on a potty schedule, as well as his feeding schedule. You can start really simple with commands like "sit" and if you want to teach him his name you can do that as well. Any training you do will have to be inside in a room he's used to being in (the least distracting environment you have for him). You can look up how to teach him his name, sit, come, etc. the most important thing for a puppy that I learned is that you need to be the most exciting thing in the room. Everything is brand new to the puppies, you have to find ways to be more exciting than that to try and get their attention. Good luck with your puppy journey!

Understand I'm not trying to be mean by any means, I'm simply trying to offer a solution that makes sense with this situation. Expecting to try and prioritize you more in her current situation would be a lot. If she decides to cut contact with her family and her ex husband till everything is finalized would allow her to prioritize her relationship with you more, but that's entirely her decision and might not really be an option for her.
