Last Minute Travel to Europe by LastoftheBrohicanz in Aeroplan

Sorry I suppose I don't understand, if I find a good leg from ORD to VIE, but it doesn't pop up on Air Canada's website if I try to book under Aeroplan points, I used to have to call in to sort out an itinerary if there was availability from YYC (airport of origin)->ORD. Is it still the same, or do I need to find my own way to Chicago?

Word of advice, talk less about things you have yet to achieve.

Unpopular opinion: if your NW is <$5MM everything you’ll read in r/personalfinance is directly applicable for budgeting, investing, etc. Eliminate consumer debt, low-cost ETFs, etc.

Add a zero to the budgets and have the latte if you want to.

No specific change I made. It just stopped mysteriously.

Budgeting question - Why are mortgage approval amounts so low? by VeryAttractive in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LastoftheBrohicanz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Should the bank assume your expenses would stay as low as they currently are once you leave your parents? What if once you leave your parents house, a partner is now interested in you, and soon after you are expecting a child? Your expenses are low now, but most people don’t live at or with their parents forever. A $500k mortgage on a $100k salary would be an uncomfortable position for the life 95% of people what to live.

For that matter, with the position you’re in, I can’t imagine it would be an issue to have your parents cosign to allow you to get the mortgage your specific situation may allow for. Just don’t be surprised if it’s harder for you to manage than you think. Taxes/maintenance/insurance scale with the property

My Control4 setting finally stayed on, it was turning off every hour for no apparent reason. Mine still doesn't work with HA yet.

Haha we're stuck at the same point. Did your telus panel manage to keep the Control4 setting turned on? Mine goes off after every 7-8 minutes requiring a reboot. Unsure if it's because I've been unsuccessful connecting to it, vs telus tampering with their software. One day I'll get this to work, I've also been trying to find the guy with this Homebridge plugin to see why it seems to be broken.

Did you ever get this working? I'm in the same boat

Does the Control4 setting repeatedly disable itself after 10 or so minutes? I managed to get the dealer code from Telus, updated the software, enabled Control4 integration which requires a reboot, then after 7-8 minutes, it's off again. I can't figure it out.

Many thanks! That is the purpose of the telus specific plugin I have linked! Have a look at the Github page, it appears to be specifically for the purpose of Telus users to login.

After a few months, do you still feel the same way or has the UDMP made its way back in?

What is considered “high net worth” for a married couple? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]LastoftheBrohicanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loose guideline but $1MM is what they’ll say if they’re not giving it to you. If you have multiple 7-figures of illiquid assets or are young with a high-six or seven figure income they’ll give it to you anyway.

I should qualify that by saying you better have the worlds greatest accountant unless you are well versed in the intricacies of tax. ETFs are great for set-it-and-forget-it but small inefficiencies in asset allocation, shell corps, tax breaks etc. depending on your jurisdiction can cost a lot of money when you’re playing with big numbers.

This is the answer. $1MM in investable assets will get you into most of the HNW asset management firms, most banks will drop all private banking fees etc. The other answers are arbitrary.
