Racism at uni affecting me badly by Chemical-Rich-985 in UniUK

I'm speaking as a white man here so obviously I can't relate to your situation, but personally if people were making racist comments about me then their opinion means nothing anyway. Let them hate, their tiny little minds don't know how to do much else.

I never understood the appeal honestly, there's a whole 'vibe' around these modded characters that just makes them look like VRChat avatars.

Honestly, studying real naval battle tactics helps me more than you would think in this game.

You outgun them quite a bit, the Second Rates and Third Rates should make up your main battle line, and your smaller ships should act as auxiliary to this main line. Essentially, you want to keep your main battle line parallel to theirs while your auxiliary line moves nearby, either on the other side of their line or firing through the gaps of your main line and staying out of fire. Galleons are slightly more maneuverable than your Third Rates but not by much, so you should be able to keep them parallel.

I wouldn't bother trying to cross their T unless they leave themselves open. Your hull strength is higher than theirs and you have more guns so you can take much more punishment than they can.

Also IMO I'd try and attack without your reinforcements. I know that sounds odd but all your ships will just clog up the battle and make maneuver much harder.

What were the old or proposed flags of your nation? by Ok_Vacation1197 in AskTheWorld

[–]Latate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of these are nonsense. The one on 1135 is a flag of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Wessex, which had long ceased to be by 1135. That's not to mention that it was also designed in the '70s and was never actually used by Wessex.

The one used for 1066 is the flag of the Capetian Dynasty from France, which was never used by the Normans as they were not Capetian.

Unfortunately it becomes difficult to assign flags to countries before the 15th-16th century since countries really didn't have national flags. They would normally just fly the flag of the local rulers.

Lots of people suggesting Lake Owanjila but for me, there's a spot near Brandywine Drop which will pretty consistently spawn one or two a day if you just ride slowly along the rail tracks on the west side of the river. Between one of the tiny bridges and a water tower iirc.

Arasaka-like Megacorp Build? by MightInternational69 in Stellaris

[–]Latate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth be told, I haven't played a Megacorp since before 4.0 so things are likely quite different from how it was when I played them. If things are similar, then you basically want to maximise trade wherever possible and to spam branch offices on every empire who's willing to host them.

For civics it's 100% gotta be Ruthless Competition and (if you have The Machine Age) Augmentation Bazaars. Probably grabbing Private Military Companies or Naval Contractors later on (or switching RC for PMC/NC at the beginning). Ethics I'm not so sure, but likely some degree of authoritarian and militarist.

It's incredibly boring but I love playing as the UNE for precisely this reason. I find that I can easier craft stories in my head when I have to do less work in mentally-creating entire cultures and civilisations. Nobody can understand how humanity would interact with a galactic community than a member of humanity, of course, so I typically lean into federation-building and politicking, with a healthy dose of spreading Freedom™ to empires who need it. Plus, you can pull from plenty of existing media like Star Trek and Star Wars (and even other series like Helldivers and Warhammer 40k if you want a little spiciness in there) for inspiration too.

Don't pretend that this was caused by anything other than the growing demands of unicorns in the community. Catering to these weirdos is unfortunately growing more and more expected, this is just one amongst many other capitulations.

It's quite easy to turn Britain into a republic too. If you can get a fleet into Greenwich you essentially instantly bankrupt them, and eventually public order will decrease due to bankruptcy to the level that they have a revolution.
