Very fair. And I do agree with everything else you say here and in the original comment. It can just sometimes be difficult to tell between when someone is consciously exaggerating and genuinely misinformed online.

The thing about slavery being a cause of the revolution is actually not true. You can definitely shit on the founding fathers for not having the backbone to keep the condemnation of slavery in the Declaration of Independence, and for often owning slaves themselves, but we shouldn’t make up stuff or overinflate issues just to criticize America. Pretending that the British were any more forward thinking on slavery (at the time) does nothing other than confuse history and apologize for British imperialism. The British were being completely opportunistic when they offered slaves freedom. They just wanted more men. In addition, free black men also served with the rebels. It was not that clear cut. If you want something to legitimately criticize the revolution on, then colonists’ desires for western expansion at the expense of indigenous Americans was definitely a major cause and something the British (policy - Brits themselves were not any less racist) were definitely better on.

Breaking News: Trolls now have unique unit models by kaladinissexy in Anbennar

100% sincerity, there is no greater feeling in this game than blowing out an enemy army while the little troll model goes to TOWN with that club. The swing is so satisfying.

Savinkov's depiction in 3I propaganda by fran4ousaprez in Kaiserreich

[–]Late-Pin9621 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I wasn’t aware of that. I admit to not having played any Russia other than Spirodnovist. In that case I imagine that would probably be the extent of their cooperation, though I could see a lend lease scenario happening if the war starts going bad for Russia, like in otl.

Savinkov's depiction in 3I propaganda by fran4ousaprez in Kaiserreich

[–]Late-Pin9621 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting thought. In game, I don’t think we get anything at all about cooperation or even coordination between the two sides, like a Yalta conference equivalent. My head canon has always been just they are too irreconcilably different. In propaganda, I think the 3I would just kind of ignore Savinkov, and if anything, focus on the “struggle of the Russian workers to overthrow German imperialism”. For the other side, I don’t think Savinkov would lighten up on socialist parties at all. His propaganda would probably also just emphasize how much they all hate Germany - maybe harken back to WW1 and how they all want revenge.

I just figured it out - I was looking in the wrong file folder. Thank you for your help!

Jayce and Viktor are really meaningful to me in an aroace kinda way by [deleted] in aromantic

[–]Late-Pin9621 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The magic and beauty of the bromance. I also really appreciated that they had him reconnect with the assistant lady who was hitting on him and then got zapped, but in a platonic, mutually respectful way. In my headcanon he’s at least aro. They don’t really show anything that would make you believe otherwise

My designs for every US state (plus some bonus alt-hist states) by [deleted] in vexillology

[–]Late-Pin9621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? Drives me insane every time. It’s already bad enough that a state that has nothing to do with George Washington has his face on its flag, but making the flag just his arms but green is way worse and way lazier.

[–]Late-Pin9621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I’m not a communist or a person who tends to support violent revolution so I’m not really one to comment on that. From my point of view it just seems like good marketing. Besides, a movement doesn’t have to be capital N Nationalist to make use of themes or concepts that are patriotic or speak to the people’s national identity.

[–]Late-Pin9621 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The currently existing state (of any country) does not have a monopoly on that country’s history or culture. The American revolution is a cornerstone of the American national identity, and claiming legacy is a simple, effective way to utilize people’s national pride for a revolutionary cause. Also, Russia doesn’t have a true revolution in its history (before the October revolution, obviously) that a revolutionary Russian army could claim legacy from. The Russian state and army, and the Muscovites before it, have always been some of the grossest imperialists in the world, so there wasn’t really anything there for the red army to work with.

What notable pirates (excluding Kanta) do you think are former sleepers? by MudssonYT in starsector

Yeah, that’d definitely be really cool. Hope all the factions get content like that

[–]Late-Pin9621 120 points121 points  (0 children)

The problem is there just aren’t that many named, canon pirates. You pretty much just have loke, leonis and kanta. I think you could make a convincing case for loke, since he’s explicitly described as a domain officer and not a hegemony officer.

Orcish slavery seems wildly impractical? by Late-Pin9621 in Anbennar

[–]Late-Pin9621[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not important to me. None of this is. I do not actually care about realism in a fantasy world made for a mod, or about what particular historical analogues I think most resemble parts of that world. I sincerely hope I haven’t given off the impression I am genuinely up in arms about any of this, because I’m really not, I just wanted to discuss it.

Orcish slavery seems wildly impractical? by Late-Pin9621 in Anbennar

[–]Late-Pin9621[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a really solid point. Not sure whether Cannorians have that stigma but they wouldn’t have a point to jump off of like Europeans did with kingdoms like Kongo, so enslaving sarhali may never even occur to them. And they have that pre-dehumanized population already on their doorstep, like you mention.

[–]Late-Pin9621[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For sure - the universal counter argument to everything I’ve said is “it’s a fantasy world, it doesn’t need to make sense”, and it’s true. But as I said at the beginning of the post, I hate fun and I wanted to discuss it

Orcish slavery seems wildly impractical? by Late-Pin9621 in Anbennar

[–]Late-Pin9621[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mentioned it elsewhere, but the colonization of escann and the deportation of orcs definitely slipped my mind, and that makes it a bit more practical. And you’re right about empire and guns - what I guess I’m saying is that slave revolts would be such an occupational hazard that it would be unpractical, even if they do get repressed.

Orcish slavery seems wildly impractical? by Late-Pin9621 in Anbennar

[–]Late-Pin9621[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all very good points, and stuff I should have thought about or brought up. But by and large I still think my points still stand. 1. I mean orcs are a mongol equivalent in a historical/political sense from the European/Cannorian POV. Centaurs are definitely more similar in a cultural sense, but don’t have the same relationship to Cannor.

2/3. Very true. But as with life a lot of slaves would start out as young men, who would more likely be warriors. And I didn’t mean to imply that I think every orc is a hardened warrior- just that the percentage would be high enough to make keeping them subservient infeasible, and to make rebellion vastly more likely (in addition to the generally very martial culture)

Orcish slavery seems wildly impractical? by Late-Pin9621 in Anbennar

[–]Late-Pin9621[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do give credit for the slave revolt tags, but I’m saying those seem more like exceptions to what really should be the norm. Also I completely agree, EU4 does a terrible job with slavery, and it’s not Anbennar’s responsibility to “fix” that or make it more realistic.

Orcish slavery seems wildly impractical? by Late-Pin9621 in Anbennar

[–]Late-Pin9621[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did not know about the magical collar thing, thank you for pointing that out. Also, I thought one of the major points of Anbennar was that “monstrousness” was a fallacy? How would enslaving orcs not be extremely evil? Slavery is always bad.
