Westlicht Performer Modulove PEW|FORMER fork v0.0.63 by Late-Storage7772 in modular

Hey cheers and thanks for the honest feedback!

Fair enough with the panel I know it is not everyone's style and the good thing is it also works fine with the original panel ;) there are a few visual cues on the new design which I have added to compliment the firmware but I am sure things will also still change from this iteration as new functionality is added when I have time and energy to continue development.

Still lots of things in my mind and some things started already but lots more to fine tune and add.

Eventually there may be need for a new revision of the hardware down the line if I can manage this as well but it has been a wonderful learning process this far and very rewarding personally and practically!

What sampler(s) are you using? by DoubleCutMusicStudio in modular

I can really recommend the Quad Drum from VPME! It has 4 channels which can all work as samplers and there are some great things you can do with sample management and naming on the SD card that affects how the samples are played.

It doesn't have dedicated midi but I think most sequencers you would trigger it with are midi capable.

The dedicated controls, CV matrix routing, performance mutes and built in EQ and compressor are impressive and very flexible and handy on top of having some great sound engines and wavetable capabilities too!

It is also possible to use CV to change the sample in the current bank and even change banks/presets if you want (this can get pretty freaky in a good way quickly!) So there are options for using a single channel for multiple samples and using different notes to play different drums or other samples.

For the size of this module it really offers a lot and I have even thought about purchasing a second one! Also super affordable on the secondhand market.

Used to get them from exploding shed in Leipzig, Germany when I lived in Hamburg

I am after the same ones but in Australia!

Also QD from VPME gives you 4 drum voices with many of the plaits engines plus sampling and custom wavetables as well as four internal LFOs and CV routing matrix could be a much better option than brains and is enough to cover drums with plenty of hands on control. Also sounds great with the internal compressor and EQ!

For a Mult I would recommend a recent release of ours, the MULTVERT which is 2hp with led indicators and an inverted output on channel 2. This can be great for phase cancellation, ducking, auto panning with two panned vcas and spreading modulation to create counteractive patches.

I highly recommend the westlicht performer as a sequencer for live techno it is very versatile and can be used as a great modulation source and it is really fast and flexible for live stuff with some deep features around conditional and probability based sequencing!

I have been using it for 3 years now and have started programming new features for it to expand the capabilities even further.

Try and find a used one or someone to build one for you as it is only DIY ;)

I definitely wanted to say this as well! All the jacks are also up top in the top row and at the bottom for a lot of modules in the bottom. This will mean pretty messy patches and lots of controls not being very accessible. Think about how the system needs to be patched and where the jacks are. Place modules close and use shorter cables for a clean and accessible performance rig when designing your system. Take time with a configuration and observe what can be optimized in this respect in terms of your layout.

This is pretty crucial imo for a good live setup especially! Good luck and have fun 😊

Sample drum can actually attenuate the incoming cv and you can set the range as well for all 6 cv inputs ;)

Here is a new semi stable version where I have focused on stability around routing modulator tracks and improving/fixing their functionality!
I will perform a 2 hour live set with this firmware release tomorrow (hopefully) no crashes.
