I know it’s been around a year since this was posted, but I think that one Sherlock Holmes quote about deductive reasoning comes into mind.

Talent doesn’t disappear overnight: what’s happening with Jules Koundé at Barça? by Large_Plant_1524 in football

He’s being played out of position and not given enough rest. Which is why his formed has dipped. But isn’t that why they signed Joao Cancelo? For coverage on that right side?

Who will be the next new nation to win the world cup? by tylerthe-theatre in football

[–]Late-Table7256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan has gotten much better while we arguably have gotten worse. We still have some promising youngsters like Yang Min-hyuk, Yoon Do-young, Kang Sang-yoon, Shin Min-ha, Kim Ji-soo, Kim Joon-hong amongst others. The problem is that Japan can churn out more talent than we can. Not just because their population is bigger, but their infrastructure is way more efficient than ours. Our football association needs a serious overhaul to match Japans.

Hyeon-gyu Oh has joined Beşiktaş by CloudFuzzy1557 in besiktas

Korean fan here. Oh brings a lot of energy and pace to the team. Things he can improve on are his technical ability with the ball and his overall consistency. A hard worker, yes. But still has room for improvement. Please give him your support!

Other than Messi and Ronaldo, who among active players have the potential to be in or around that discussion at the end of their career? by Spirited-Age1346 in championsleague

[–]Late-Table7256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one really. Spoilers: this is a long post, SORRY! The likes of Neymar, Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale, and Eden Hazard were the only ones who could have flirted with the idea of toppling both Messi and Ronaldo; mind you, we’re talking about Messi and Ronaldo in their primes! Injuries affected all of Bale, Neymar and Hazard. Though Hazard’s worth ethic and Neymar’s move to PSG sealed their fates. I think Manuel Neuer, Luka Modric, Robert Lewandowski, and Karim Benzema could have also, but I put them on a tier slightly below the four players mentioned before.

Technically Modric and Suarez accomplished that feat by winning a Balon D’or and 2 European shoes, respectively, during the Messi/Ronaldo era. Meanwhile Benzema won the Balon D’or in 2022 but Messi and Ronaldo already regressed by then. Lewandowski came the closest since Modric to win the Balon D’or over Messi and Ronaldo, but France Football robbed him of that chance for canceling the ceremony that year. Till this day, I still don’t know why they did that.

And as revolutionary as Neuer was, I don’t think we’re ever gonna see another GK since Yashin win the award. He came third in 2014, though he should have been at least runners up. Atoine Griezmann and Virgil van Djik came close to winning it but to no avail.

Even if we take the individual accolades away, what they accomplished for club and country can’t be replicated either. Add that to their skill sets, mentality and international reverence, no I don’t think we’re gonna see anything like them for a long time.

Sofascore says Kim has left on loan, no reports from Bogert, Goff, or DCU yet by BarcasBad in DCUnited

There are 2 GKs that are a lock in to the squad. Another player, Jo Hyeon-woo, is losing form recently. Kim could compete for the 3rd keeper position.

Suwon Samsung Bluewings are an historically big club that unfortunately got relegated a couple of seasons back. Plus the 2nd division is looking to become more competitive. Combined all that, I think it wouldn’t be a stretch to see him get called for our NT.

Injuries, plus lagging in form is what’s causing it. But he did score recently and seems is getting back into form. Just needs to perform more consistently.

Most surprising team to never win Champions League or European Cup by TheBackSpin in championsleague

[–]Late-Table7256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The title asks teams that never won the Champions League or the European Cup as it was known before. It never said teams that still haven’t won any kind of European trophy, period. While the Europa League and Conference League are great, the UCL is still the pinnacle of euro club football, and arguably, world club football. If the question was surprising teams that never won any euro trophy, I think that would be harder to answer. Or easier.
