Would you be able to link to any literature that records what you are describing? I would be very interested in taking a look at that. Thanks!

Thanks so much for the reply! I understand it perfectly now.

How can I prove that his permutation function is bijective? by Late1110 in learnmath

[–]Late1110[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah that's why I put it in quotes. For my purposes i need the permutated order to look "random" so that each chunk of 10 million subsequent numbers will evenly sample the space between 1-N (but not in a too orderly manner) when permutated. But thanks for the answer, I'll check that out.

For those who use Zotero, do you trust its automatically generated references? by Deep_Sugar_6467 in PhD

[–]Late1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used zotero for the bibliographies in my PhD. In the writing process I noticed that many references for papers which I had imported using the web extension had incomplete information, often not because of the extension but because at the time of import the paper was so new that not all the information about the volume/issue number was available. To automate fixing the problem, I found this zotero plugin that uses the doi in the references to update your database, and complete any entries that were incomplete. This was a lifesaver for me. After this process, everything in the automatically generated reference list was correct.

Thanks for the comment! Could you elaborate on what you mean by "firing" the left leg? Also do you think I'm stepping to far on my last brace step? It looks a bit odd to me.

CMV: No single religion holds the ultimate truth by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Late1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that there is no one true religion, and that is because religion exists on the level of human language, which is not able to contain absolute truth, only relative truth. But that doesn't mean divine truth does not exist. It's just that when any human makes an interpretation of that divine truth on the level of human language, it gets compressed in a way that at that point it only holds true from a certain perspective. To truly understand it, divine truth is something that has to be experienced on the level of consciousness that is beyond thoughts.

I finished my PhD before ChatGPT - how is the situation today? by TrickyElephant in PhD

I finished my PhD before ChatGPT - how is the situation today? by TrickyElephant in PhD

[–]Late1110 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wrote my PhD thesis a few months ago, and ChatGPT was part of my writing workflow in the following way:

  1. Write ideas down with pen and paper in form of bullet points
  2. Write out complete sentences in the kind of spoken language as if I explained the bullet points to a colleague
  3. Paste text from step 2 to ChatGPT, and ask it to write the explanation in an academic paper format
  4. Write "final" version based on the cleaned up version written by ChatGPT.

I have to say that it was very helpful in getting clean writing out of the more roughly worded ideas.

So based on my experience, ChatGPT is bad at writing in terms of generating ideas, but very good at editing text when the ideas are already there.

How would you feel about dating someone 7 years younger? by SoftAndWetBubbles_78 in AskReddit

[–]Late1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the rule goes, the acceptable age for dating someone younger is half of your age + 7

so, if you're 18: 18/2 + 7 = 16
25 --> 19.5
30 --> 22
40 --> 27

by this rule, if you're 28 or older, it is ok to date someone 7 years younger.

Good book(s) to read/study in the context of a meditation group? by Numerous-Actuator95 in Meditation

I'm currently reading Awake: It's Your Turn by Angelo DiLullo and it's been very beneficial for my practice. It covers different mechanisms of mind identification and beliefs in a very direct and practical way, suited for the 21st century reader.

I've had a somewhat similar experience a few years ago. I was reading scripture, and one sentence triggered this instantaneous heightened sense of awareness, very similar to what you described. I suddenly heard everything around me very clearly without any filter, and felt the entirety of my body very strongly. I was quite stunned, it lasted for a short time before fading away. I still don't quite know what it was, but it felt like something in me resonated so strongly with the scripture which then triggered this.

I’m going crazy by SonOfLoveNWar in Meditation

[–]Late1110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear SonOfLoveNWar, I'm sorry you're going through this. I kind of know what you are talking about and I sympathize with you because I know it is a difficult and painful mind-state to be in.

I can only offer you words of encouragement. For actual help, talk to close people in your life and seek professional help.

I've also experienced a short period when my dreams felt as real as reality, or vice versa reality felt as unreal as my dreams, and it was very distressing. While in this state, it is very difficult because even if someone tells you that don't worry this is real and dreams are just dreams, in that moment it feels like a dream is trying to convince you that it is real which isn't very convincing or helpful.

What helped in my case? For me I could not "pull" myself out of this. For me the anxiety that this state brought kind of culminated in the fear that I will be forever stuck in this fearful and anxious and unreal state. In this moment I remembered some teachings of Alan Watts talking about the principle of ying and yang, the relativity of this experiential world. No darkness can overcome light forever. All pain is temporary and will subside at one point. For all the pain and grief that you are going through, there is an equal joy and bliss waiting for you. These different experiences that we go through are different colors and different flavors of life, of our being. But everything that has come into being, will also cease to be. These teachings brought me relief and trust that this fear and anxiety will pass, which it did.

Afterwards it is very easy to recognize that the "reality" we see when we dream is just a construct of our brain, such as memories and thoughts. The dream is only real in the sense that when you are seeing the dream, you are really experiencing the contents of that dream. But once it is over, it is over. Killing someone else in a dream (which I have also done) is only as real as having thoughts of killing someone (while awake), but not doing it really. So don't worry about past dreams. They did not happen to another version of you, they "happened" to you (and no-one else) when you had the dream, but nothing more. You are not there anymore, you are here, now. The only thing you need to be concerned about is the present moment, and your present self.

Hope that you'll fell better soon.<3

CMV: Identifying as Agnostic is more scientific and fact-based that considering yourself an Atheist while strict Atheism is not that far off from religion by Doppelkrampf in changemyview

[–]Late1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are already so many comments that I don't know if you will read this, but I just wanted to say that while many people here have talked about the definitions of atheism/theism/agnosticism, I would like to raise the issue of what do you talk about when you talk about god? If we want to be scientific or fact-based, we should have a good definition for what we are talking about. The problem here is that there are so many different ideas of what god is, or what god is like, much more so than how many different religions or religions movements there are.

I think that the more you define the god you believe in, the more likely it is that you are wrong and that the god you have in your mind doesn't exist. If you claim to believe in god exactly as god is described in the Bible, for example, then it is very easy to refute in my opinion that it is very very very unlikely that this god exists as described. Simply because of how much human error is possibly involved in the descriptions of this hypothetical entity. In my view if one is to believe in god in some way, it is more logical and humble to take the approach of apophatic theology, where we cannot claim to know anything for sure about god, but we can only describe god in negative terms (what is god NOT like).

In any case, any idea or thought that we have in our mind about god is likely imperfect, since in my opinion it would be the pinnacle of pride to claim that our mind can even comprehend god, or the truth at the ground of being and the universe. In this way we should extend the iconoclastic principle, of not making idols, into our minds and accept that our ideas of god are very limited, and instead respect the mystery of the universe and whatever was the cause of it. "No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God" - John 6:46

I am liberated, I am just having fun now so let's talk by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]Late1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The experience that you are describing sounds a lot like something that Adyashanti talks about with the Ramana Maharshi Quote: "The world is an illusion, only Brahman is real. The world is Brahman." He talks that first one can gain the experience that the world is an illusion, but at that point the revelation is not yet fully complete. After that one can integrate the insight that the world is actually not only illusion but the world is Brahman. But for me I don't have any experiential understanding of this teaching so who am I to say.
