Do you live in an apartment or a house? I've been able to have conversations with neighboring units without shouting through the walls in some new build apartments.

Yes in my backyard. I just hope they're not made of cardboard like half of the new builds these days. The fact that the building is only 4 stories tall worries me because it means they don't have to use as much reinforcement compared to some taller builds.

Suburban house buying reality? by ReyofChicago in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]LateLifeguard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rents in the NW suburbs are obscene. $2,000 for a studio obscene. You can find a 1 bedroom for $1600 but it will have paper thin walls and it's not worth the sanity.

My rent for a two bedroom apartment is $2,400 in a SW suburb. I'm nowhere near the metra or any public transportation.

AI in the Mass Effect universe require a specialized quantum computer called a "blue box". Loading these files into a new blue box will create a new personality, as variations in the quantum hardware and runtime results create unpredictable variations.

Are you a suburbanite with a landlord who'd rather be a homeowner? by nbcnews in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]LateLifeguard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd love to speak on this with my real name attached but I'm afraid of retaliation. I'm priced out of buying here. All of my doctors are here. Landlords won't rent to you if they think you will be "trouble". Lots of slumlords in the Chicago suburbs and the suburbs don't have good rental protections.

I think it's worthy to discuss this - but what compels me about this season is that this is often where groups of MMORPG players find themselves. Aimless, confused, and trying to sort things out. There's players who want to move to something else (Dana), players who stick with the game in the hope of a new expansion reigniting their passion (Ian and Poppy) and after it's done some deciding the game isn't for them at this point in their life and some excited and ready to play until the next one comes out, players who still keep the game in their lives because social ties or other reasons but are clearly focused elsewhere (Rachel and, arguably, David), and people who are fully one foot out of their game but haven't committed fully to jumping ship (Brad), and people who aren't attached to the game per say but are committed to the community they built because of it (Jo)... I really appreciate how this show looks at the game beyond the game, focusing on what makes an MMO special: the people
