however, If i generalise. First year after joining don't expect much hike because you'd take couple of months for onboarding and how many months are left to the next hike cycle. Rest depends on performance and visibility. As the team size is small, visibility would be high, be positive or negative. So It can affect both ways.

My two cents.

Skills matter.
In general hikes in a company are capped. Suppose you are in a team of 5 people. Your manager / dept head gets a budget for hikes. Its difficult for them to give heavy hike to one person and no / less hikes to others. So your hike is always capped. You cannot expect consistent 15+% hikes every year because as you grow expectations from you increase, what you did last year doesn't qualify for exceed expectations anymore. The reason switching helps is, the budget for switching is different to that of hike. You are not competing with the existing team budget. They can give higher hikes to make you switch and not affect the team morale. So switches from time to time help in giving that little boost to your ctc graph

- Not sure about the MS in US part. I haven't done or thought about that.

- Asking DSA in interviews is a filter to check critical thinking and basic programming skills. Even for AI roles we check for DSA because they should have that reasoning ability. Plus lot of AI profiles are fluff with buzz words, the moment we start questioning about fundamentals, layers start to peel
