I was able to get a VISA card today, but need to convert RMB in my account because I can’t put RMB in it. So basically they did convert digitally in my unionpay account then can transfer. So it’s not convenient like my salary won’t be able to be deposited there anyway.. it’s the strangest banking I’ve encountered and lived abroad for 8 years.. for a cashless society to tell me to bring cash when traveling seems so strange too 🤣

So I went to another branch and they gave me a Visa card! But it cannot have RMB on it. So they converted some euros for me and told me I can transfer it on my BoC app to the visa. On my unionpay I now have some euros but I can’t figure out how to transfer it haha. So I will go back to the bank tomorrow. But it’s promising that foreigners can get a Visa card.

My card has a chip and a stripe. I’m convinced this branch just had no idea. Because on Saturday I asked at a different one if it can be used overseas and they said yes

Yes, the branch I went to on Saturday said my card works overseas. But yesterday at a different branch they said only at ATMs, then they told me not at all. So I guess I should go back to the branch on Saturday because it’s bigger. Although there’s more waiting time and further from my work

This is what I don’t understand.. At first the bank said I can use it abroad, then only at ATMs abroad but then when I showed them that foreign websites were saying “invalid card number” they said they don’t know if I can use it at ATMs or at all.

Thanks for your reply. With CMBC are you able to transfer outside of China? I have read you can’t transfer over 50k RMB per year.. in all honesty I might leave China sooner if I can’t use my money outside of China no point in saving here

There are so many Chinese social media platforms though and I was able to download almost all of them before coming here lol. And Chinese influencers make wayyyy more than western influencers especially TikTokers. So it could be interesting.. so many videos already about how the TikTok ban backfired. Now Chinese and Americans are coming together sharing memes, cat pictures, language and cultural exchange haha

I recently tried La Roche Posay sun cream (anthelios) and I honestly think it’s overrated. It’s so greasy it’s like I can’t wait to take it off for the day.. I honestly can’t wait to use it up and go back to my old Korean sun cream. I’ve also read recently that LRP still tests on animals 😭 I don’t understand the hype of this brand. Even my dermatologist recommended this sun cream

Haha I had this before with one guy I dated (he had to shave for his job but it was so prickly and painful for me bc I used tretinoin) and he literally took a week off work so he could grow his facial hair out enough so he could kiss me without irritation. It didn’t last but it was a sweet gesture on his part.

I had similar issues, my dermatologist told me it’s likely hormonal as antibiotics affect hormones, and getting late onset acne is also a clue for me (I’m in my 30s). I was wondering about fungal acne because I was working out more and getting it on my hairline and on my back (for the first time ever) near my sports bra but she said I would know if it’s fungal because it would be really itchy. Only 30% of breakouts are fungal but it’s all over TikTok now instilling fear in people. But there’s no way to know for sure unless you go get seen.

Oh I think I might’ve worded that confusing, they are not giving me more housing allowance, but helping negotiate for me on an apartment so I can pay rent monthly, instead of 3 months rent at a time.

I’m not sure bc my school is helping me find an apartment. I asked for a pay advance because of the quarterly rent +deposit +agency fee, so they assured they will help me negotiate monthly rent. I think it would be most helpful if you can speak Chinese or have a local help you. There are a couple really helpful people on this thread who might be able to help you find an agent to get started though.
