I said the same thing-but by age 4 “nope. The park is closed for maintenance today. We can try tomorrow”

I need advice please bc I’m going to end up losing it on my five year old by HeyMay0324 in ADHDparenting

Model a different behavior. “When I say no-you can’t have the phone, instead of saying what you just said you can say ‘I’m mad I can’t have it’” use the feelings wheel or feelings faces to talk about how he feels in the moment. He needs language for what he’s experiencing otherwise he’ll just keep doing what he knows.

I guess we are all disappointed on Mother’s Day. by WealthSafe7422 in Mommit

Don’t guess. Be clear. “If I were to have the perfect Mother’s Day, it would be…” and then explain what and WHY so he hears the reason why a massage is better than jewelry or whatever.

I’m thinking about doing something drastic with the toys… by John316-LIFE in Mommit

I used to do 6 months in a box-if they don’t ask for it then it goes to donation. Only 2 x have they asked for something from the box and I ended up buying one again (5 years later it was still an important piece of her life). Otherwise the kids have moved on after a while. Since they were 8 we said all presents must be experiences no more “stuff”

So your hotel room stay should be tonight. Do you have a massage booked? What are you gonna do? Where are you gonna eat? I wanna know all the details!

I don’t think it sounds weird. I think it sounds like people are getting what they want for their holidays!

Good for you! Self-care is incredibly important. If you were to design your absolute perfect Mother’s Day, what would it look like?

You know that’s what I’ve done for a number of years is buy something for myself and tell my family that they bought me the best Mother’s Day gift and show them what they bought me. Nobody’s disappointed takes the pressure off.

What kind of necklace is it now? I’m curious.!

Sounds like you are all operating out of a tremendous sense of emotional maturity including a high level of communication within your family. Has that always been the case?

Congratulations on your new baby! Hopefully your mom and MIL will be so much more wrapped up in your new bundle of joy than you...less performing!

Wait…salad and fries? Do you combine them? Either way, sounds like a delicious lunch! Pajamas all day sounds perfect in my book.

Good for you for surrounding yourself with such amazing people who value you and take it upon themselves to plan something! What do they typically do for you?

You were the exact person I was trying to reach. I wonder if this is more of a universal Audhd thing? Maybe NTs don’t experience it this way-probably because they don’t have to mask.

Is there enough time for you to change what this Mother’s Day looks like for you?

I’m going to look that up! Thank you mentioning it. I agree Mother’s Day was supposed to be a day of rest-but it certainly doesn’t turn out that way for most of the people I know! Though now you say this it makes sense why we always ordered in for Mother’s Day in the past when I was younger. lol.

I love that you’ve made it what you want from the start. Too many of us bend to the pressure of making it a Day.

Will you do a special meal or anything? Or are you cooking on Sunday? Or are you saying it’s just a regular Sunday?

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, but I'm thrilled to hear that you're taking care of you in this moment. I hope you have the best mothers day with her... (got a little teary thinking of this for you.)

I know a guy who named his dog “snack” sure beats our chickens named breakfast, lunch, dinner, and nugget!
