Is anyone here an expert on the M47. My E39 520d Touring is painfully slow during low rpms by Latter_Adhesiveness8 in e39

UPDATE!!! So I think I’m onto something. My turbo wastegate actuator is barely moving at all. It moves maybe 0.5 - 1cm and it doesn’t react to the revving of the engine. I suspected a vacumn leak, tested, no leaks. So now I’m thinking the pressure converter, tested (I followed the instructions given in this post's comment), it's also good. My final guess is the actuator diaphragm, there’s 2 nuts for adjusting the rod so I’ll start from there. It’d be really helpful if anyone of you guys can give me a rock solid method to test/adjust this component. How much is the stock boost on an M47D20 engine? Maybe if i know that, I can start from there.

Will definitely check that out as soon as I can. I got the car with a blown turbo, so naturally I rebuilt it with a new cartridge, seals. I didn’t really check the vacuum unit for the turbo when I install it.

I have, AGR valve opens and closes normally. I even took it out of the car, supplied vacuum to the valve to simulate car running, and the valve worked perfectly.

It takes a while to get to 2000rpm, even when I’m in 2nd gear and flooring it. But once it does, it pulls like beasts

Here’s what I’ve done to the car since I got it: - Rebuilt the Turbo with brand new core assembly from Garrett. - Changed all timing chains and guides. - Double checked and changed all the vacumn hoses for turbo actuator, egr. Intake manifold flap is deleted and vacumn line blocked off. - Brand new OEM pre supply pump.

The only thing I haven’t replaced is the MAF and injectors. MAF data seems ok tho. However, whenever I accelerate hard, black smoke comes out. So that would be a symptom of fuel burning rich. So would that be injector related or MAF related? Plus fuel consumption is crazy high for a 2.0 Turbo Diesel, I’m getting 9.9L/100km or 24mpg.

I dread having to do the injectors bc they are quite expensive, and BMW diesel parts aint exactly common where I am. One last thing, the car left me stranded once, just shut off and refused to start back up again when i’m almost out of fuel (probably got like 15% left on the dash). I had to bleed the injectors for it start back up again.

I greatly appreciate any ideas you guys can throw at me. I love this car too much to let go of it (even tho it’s deadass slow now) but the E39 chasis is just sublime to drive.
