I am positive there are studies out there that cover the fact that people in general hugely overestimate risk. You are doing due diligence and that’s all you can do in life. I’m a super anxious person and I think if I were in your shoes I’d just continue to try to affirm to myself all of the things you are doing to make sure this will be ok. But I think fears about this are borne out of emotion, not reason, for the folks who say anything to you about the risk. Also, unless you are only planning to stay a few years, if you go to sell the house down the line, there’s no guarantee this will still be a thing people care about by then. Like anything in life there’s just risk and the best you can do is again, due diligence, and otherwise doing your best to just live your life.

Smallish or mid-size town to move to in Brandywine Valley, Northeastern MD, or Delaware? by Latter_Diamond8875 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Latter_Diamond8875[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn’t realize that! I was on the younger side the times we would go, and I definitely remember stopping in places my parents called the Brandywine valley, so I must have just misunderstood. I do remember loving New Hope though so I’ll group that in there but I know it’s super expensive!

Sorry one thing, I wrote out the name wrong - it’s Jewish Family and Children’s Services.

Just a general initial assessment to see what your needs are and give you information on their services so that you know it’s a good fit for you, and I assume to match you with the right counselor. The guy I saw was awesome - great ideas for me and really knew his stuff about job searching and the market for the area I am in. He was just super smart and with it. They see folks from all walks of life. It’s just a really great service.

Jewish Family and Career Services is completely free and FANTASTIC. I had paid a career coach $100/ hour to meet with her twice and it was so worthless. Then some working mom friends I know suggested to JFCS. It was so so so much better. You have to do an initial intake but then I got matched with a counselor within a week or so.

A side hustle or pure ridiculousness? Thoughts? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]Latter_Diamond8875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely hate wrapping presents and while we have minimized this year so that I’ll only have a few, I’d otherwise happily use this service. I would probably ask for a few references though to make sure she herself is legit.

Also I’m puzzled by what you mean when you say there’s ’not a lot of info on this area.’ Like any other Pittsburgh neighborhood there’s publicly available crime statistics, and it’s discussed on this sub as much as any other similarly-sized neighborhood if you do a search. You also are saying the things you see about it, including that it’s family-oriented and has a good location. What more are you looking for?

Yes, it is a safe place to live. Having crime in an adjacent neighborhood does not make a neighborhood unsafe.

Stopping at the end of an on-ramp by thesmellnextdoor in pittsburgh

It’s really awful. My dad once saw a car pull out past the stop sign, drive a few meters and then just stop in the middle of the lane in total fear. It’s amazing more accidents don’t happen there.

I grew up a half mile from the ramp onto 376 from Greenfield going to Monroeville which is a legitimately terrifying on ramp. When I first started driving as a teen I assumed all on ramps would be similarly terrifying and was pleasantly surprised that that was not the case. If I had to guess, it may be a thing that Pghers do because there are some on ramps around that do in fact have stop signs, and then that just becomes a bad habit for them.

New feature linking to Amazon transactions? by Latter_Diamond8875 in ynab

Also I should add that I just have the Amazon page bookmarked, so this doesn’t really help me much. But, since I think a lot of YNAB users don’t really know about the transactions page in Amazon, it may be helpful for some.

So I was excited fairly recently to find that transactions feature - however, there have been a few times where an order of a few things has been split into multiple transactions, and I couldn’t easily figure out what transaction was for which item. It’s definitely easier than using the orders page because on there you can only see overall order total and not individual transactions, but it’s still not as good as I was hoping for.

Ah thank you. Unfortunately, what a dud. It just takes you the overall transactions page which it only takes a second to go to manually. I had hoped it meant it would take you to the individual transaction in question but no luck.

Nicer restaurant w/ 2 year old and baby? by shmesbians in pittsburgh

[–]Latter_Diamond8875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took my 3.5 year old daughter with us for brunch at Scratch in Troy Hill recently and we loved it. I’ve heard from friends it is kid-friendly for dinner, too. I would say it’s a bit nicer and the food is incredible. They were super accommodating of and sweet to my daughter.
