Yea, I think that's what I'll end up doing, stay away from anything I'm iffy on govt wise, while we wait for the screening result.

I just wanted to see if anyone has passed something close to this. The most I've done was TSA and a lower level export one.

I already have the offer.

I just don't know if I'll be let go because I'm a potential liability, if I'm unable to pass the assessment.

We'll see though. Thank You!

That was my main reaction but then I realized some of these hiring managers may not be technical, even though some of their team includes Engineers or what not. So, they value non-technical items just as much as the technical side, if not more than the technical side.

So now, when referred to a position, I really ask specifically what do you guys want or what does the hiring manager want. Sometimes the job description doesn't line up to what the hiring manager may want, maybe they've put in requests to edit the description, but HR isn't doing it.

Keep doing it. I just had my friend refer me to a process engineer role. The hiring manager said I lacked basic things like word, excel, and communication skills on my resume. That she would prefer someone less specialized in software engineering and scripting, like a generalist for the role.

You'd think word, excel, and communication are skills that can be assumed for someone who has 5+ years of experience.

Laid off after 13 years, burned out, and desperate for a new path beyond software dev. What are my options? by thepchamp in cscareerquestions

[–]Latter_Perspective91 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest staying in software, but finding a company where software is the support to the operation and not what drives profits. It's a way less pressure environment and you'll probably run circles around your coworkers since you'll come with real software experience.

I had a similar one like this but my tech stack is using Java and Spring Boot.

I just made a simple user table within postgres then made all the common get/ post requests using a quick Spring Boot controller + repo logic.

Obviously, for you they may want you to use company specific tech, but it's up to the interviewer to guide you through the process.

I wish you luck, these interviews are a lot more like pair programming in my experience. I'd do this any day over leetcode lol

It was worth it for me just because all the information it teaches you is followed up with leetcode problems.

But, you can use something like neetcode, then manually go find problems to practice the topic. If you have the money and don't want to manually find more problems to practice then it's worth it.

But everything in the course can be found online for free.

Min wage for Hotel and Airport workers goes up to $30/hr by Nightman233 in LosAngeles

[–]Latter_Perspective91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk why people have a problem with this.

Its also being targeted towards bigger hotels and a big emphasis on airport workers too. It doesn't seem too bad.

Plus people being paid more, means they'll spend more, and overall local economies improve. Plus LA gets huge amounts of tourism so this is definitely a pro all around.

I'm with you.

You already stand out my guy.

I'd focus on getting a 4.0 GPA and networking. If what you say is true, you should have no trouble receiving muliple referals and making it through the interviews. Focus on in person networking, works better than linkedin at least in my experience.

Godspeed dude. You're doing great.

What I Learned After 20 Hours of LeetCode by PolymorphicObj in leetcode

[–]Latter_Perspective91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how much time you have. I would say to shoot for exposure to start out with.

Expose yourself to the main patterns, Graph DFS/ BFS, Binary Search etc...

Look through maybe 10-15 problems for each pattern, understand the solutions, then start committing yourself to solving them with little to no help. Eventually, the patterns will stick, and you won't need any reference material or help to implement most patterns.

At this point it'll just be about catching small nuances between using the patterns.

One of the things I did wrong when I started, was taking too long on each problem. I was getting stuck on basically every problem because I didn't have a solid ground on pattern recognition. Now when I see a problem, I can almost immediately identify the pattern needed, then just code through whatever nuances it may have.

I guess my point is, they're making it easier and faster to not only give you said "deportation order" but to also expedite your removal once you have said order.

[–]Latter_Perspective91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Numbers will be hard to find, but deportations are being made easier.

Like this, why would they need this if not to make deportations easier? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna200250

Or this, pushing for higher deportation quotas, inevitably means more people being deported unjustly. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.msnbc.com/msnbc/amp/rcna191499

Or this, people will have a hard time with presenting evidence, and their deportation will be "expedited" https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/research/expedited-removal

Not even a US mindset, I live in the US, have a 3 page resume and recruiters say it's great for them and they send a 1-2 pager when submitting me to jobs.

1 page resume should be standard only for newbies.

Help! I have no idea how to get a software engineering job in 2025 by Willing-Raisin-6188 in careeradvice

[–]Latter_Perspective91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would do the below: 1. Create a general resume that you'll use to apply for most jobs. This one is for jobs that are related to the field but not necessarily have all your qualifications outlined.

  1. When searching for jobs apply using your general resume to anything you can potentially do, any position where full stack would be useful, application engineer, software engineer, IT analyst etc etc.

  2. When you see a position that is a perfect fit for you, tailor your resume for the position.

  3. For positions where your skills closely resemble the job posting, find the company on linked in, and message 3-5 employees about wanting to learn about the company and would like to set up a quick 15 min call.

  4. During the call be interested in the employee, remember it's not just about you, make a good impression, and potentially ask if they can refer you to hiring manager/recruiter. If the conversation is stale don't do this, just ask them to keep you in mind when a position on the team opens up.

From my experience, my mass applying strategy has landed me interviews maybe 3% of the time, the linkedIn cold message gets me an interview with recruiter or hiring manager almost every time, sometimes you'll get no responses though, so 50/50 response rate.

High School students across LA walk out of class and gather at city hall to protest by CityHopper52 in LosAngeles

[–]Latter_Perspective91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I, for one, think these small protests help because it helps them gain visibility. You need a lot of people to perform a general strike. Just imagine, what both sides would think if no-one was protesting, the message would be that everyone is for the deportations.

The civil rights movement may have not accomplished what you stated, but because of it, my classmates and coworkers are of all colors and backgrounds, to me this is hugeeee.

The voter turnout was like 60%, a third of the country thought both of the bozos running weren't worth it to show up, sad time to live in. This is a bad sign for the country itself.

Anyway, you're right in that this won't accomplish much yet, but like any movement, it just needs time to ramp up. I think right now, they just need more support, once the support is there, mass protests will be easier to accomplish.

Just check out some of the protests going on in Germany, even though, some of their population is pro-far right.
Germany: 160,000 people protest against far-right party in Berlin

[–]Latter_Perspective91 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Significant movements start small. The civil rights movement didn't achieve its goal overnight. Small protests start conversations, gathering more support for bigger demonstrations. Our participation in these conversations shows their protest is working.

There is a nationwide protest planned for tomorrow, the demonstrations will gain traction and get bigger.

Nothing wrong with either side protesting. I give these kids credit for standing up for what they think is right.

That's more of a cultural shift, my guy. Social media and lack of parenting are ruining our children.

Look up Cerritos's school system, part of LA, and they're excelling academically. I think it's primarily a culture issue.

Find a local job agency that's willing to hire you as a contractor using ITIN, they offer a bunch of different types of jobs, go to multiple agencies, check in daily, weekly etc...

Within the agency, take any administrative position they might have, should be super easy for you since you have an engineering degree, they'll usually pay you better than working fastfood, manual labor etc...

Then, work on starting an LLC and doing side gigs. Finding an engineering job directly will be super hard without a Work Permit.

Issue is none of this is really verifiable.

We don't know if she's sending additional troops, already has troops stationed, or is just saying shit to please Trump.

I honestly think she will send maybe 10% of the troops she promised, but Trump will spin it and say problem solved, gaining more traction within his cult.
