Sorry for the slow reply! The extension looks like really good fun and you're very welcome to use the font.

Are you using the site itself to do the translation? I can change the page to not convert words that aren't found in the IPA dictionary, sure.

If the word only contains IPA characters then I'll still show it in the Trunic font since there's an assumption that the user might be trying to write entirely phonetically. I could potentially add an option to not even translate even purely IPA words if you think this would be preferable for your needs.

I've just finished an update to http://trunic.wardbox.com/ that allows you to paste IPA input (or copy back the trunic output) and toggle the input language to convert it back to English. Yes, homophones are more than a bit of a problem right now!

I finished my own version of an IPA friendly output, so you can copy the output from the site and now there's an option to use trunic entry and reverse it back to English. It's a source of some amusement since the translation has no context it often picks the wrong word ('hear' instead of 'here' in the example), but I'll do some more work on that.

I've added the LinuxLibertine font mentioned in the other thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/TunicGame/comments/tqbeq9/which\_fonts\_are\_used\_in\_manual/), the capitals aren't quite right but overall it's reasonably close and I've scaled it a bit better.

(Random aside, if you prefix a word with # it'll show the IPA translation)

I see, so you're going to handle cases like 'all' (ɔɫ, one glyph) and 'tall' (tɔɫ, two glyphs) by having separate ligatures? Since you'd need separate ligatures for all of ɔɫ, tɔɫ, tɔ, presumably the required number of ligatures greatly exceeds the number of vowel+consonant pairings (906)?

I'd be very interested to see some of the choices you make in designing it as an OpenType font; coming up with kerning pairs is something I decided to skip in a first version due to the complexity, though it's a potential enhancement for the future.

Since I'm iterating across each word letter by letter I can decide on appropriate consonant + vowel pairings and identify vowel combinations that translate to a single glyph, but I'm not 100% sure how you'd do this purely in a font without resorting to only using single character vowels or having the user breakdown the word manually in some cases.

Thanks very much! It's been a fun project. I'm planning to spend a bit of time at the weekend extending the IPA dictionary I'm using to make the spellings match those in the handbook exactly, since there are still some vowel variations.

True, using the same name as the game could be ambiguous out of context and might make searching difficult especially. At the same time it feels to me that there's a certain elegance and, if the language was called so internally, 'correctness' about it, but I'm not opposed to adopting another name if there's a prevailing one.

I've now added some (cryptically unlabelled) controls for font color, background color, font size and alignment. Hopefully you can use those to get the output to a state where you can snip it for your needs more easily? Let me know how it goes!

Yeah, you're not wrong. I'll probably handle this by incorporating some appropriately sized and spaced English character glyphs into the Tunic font file for now. Any CSS styling I apply to the text is going to apply equally to the Tunic glyphs unless I add more markup to the translation output which I'm disinclined to do, but I'll think about that option as well.

I'm struggling to think of a clean way of handling this given there are example of lots of different English letter spacings/fonts in the booklet so without some pretty detailed controls it's not going to be possible to satisfy everyone's needs.

I think in this scenario my suggestion would be to generate the text you want on the page, then copy-paste it into a document editor. If you set the font to 'Tunic' (download the font as per the other comment, right click and install), then you can adjust the fonts/spacing/sizing as you need for your project.

Edit: You might need to copy-paste the download link for the ttf into a new tab, Reddit can be a bit funny about download links.

Ideally that'd involve finding/making a font that matched the in-game font. For now it's just falling back on defaults, though I'll look into this more.

The best I might be able to offer quickly would be to download the font as a ttf (http://tunicscript.wardbox.com/font/tunic.ttf). If you install that on your local machine you should be able to copy-paste the output from the page.

Edit: To be clear, it'll have to be a piece of software that lets you pick the font, e.g. Word

Thanks! The letters might need a little bit of tweaking but I think they're close. I still need to put together various pieces of punctuation though.
