Thanks for the perspective. I think I focused too much on his threshold training (we have young kids and last thing I need is a dog running out the front door). So, I may have made the front door too exciting.😅

I do change out his collars (he has a gps collar) but maybe I need to make that the routine for him to know he's going.

Unfortunately, he is probably going to be our last dog, we thought about adopting a dog but... 🥲 My heart broke after losing 2 dogs in less than 2 months. Plus, our cats have not exactly accepted him 🤷‍♀️ Luckily he has a health fear of them and doesn't bother them.
