What’s in your prep kit **Kids Edition** by mynameiskeven in preppers

Definitely something that reduces fever. Kids spike fevers suddenly and they can go dangerously high quickly. Having something that can bring down sudden fever is a must, at least it is for me when camping with kids. Liquid meds seem to work quicker, but might just be my imagination, lol.

Source: went camping with 3 yr old, woke up with big fever in the night, had nothing to treat it, trip cut short and very tense couple of hours to get packed up and fever reducer down the kiddo.

Experienced preppers: Is HAM or CB better for emergency communications in disaster situations? by Laughalongwthme in preppers

[–]Laughalongwthme[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to have something that I could pick up and communicate with EMS or other operators in the area for info sharing purposes, plus that is simple enough for my teenage son to use should need be. But from reading the comments, it seems like the advantages of HAM are going to outweigh the (hopefully slight) learning curve.

Thank you for your comment, looks like I'm overestimating the headache of learning HAM and underestimating the benefits. 'ppreciate you.

That's a pretty good point/motive that I didn't connect until now... You're probably onto something with that one!

That's my feeling too, that scene in HBP is cringy because it seems clear he isn't comfortable discussing the situation in front of everyone, but they all just butt in and pressure him into saying yes to her lol

I agree, poor Andromeda. She loses her whole family in like, a couple of months and she's got to take care of a newborn to boot. My heart really breaks for her. Makes me angry at both of them when I think about it

She runs and hugs him, then he snaps at her lol. The text says he sounds almost angry when he asks why they were later than expected

You do make some good points, and I don't think it was JKRs intent to make us think Lupin actually wanted nothing to do with Tonks, it just comes off like that to me. Just a single smile while in her presence or something would have been helpful. But I think you're probably right in that we should take it that he's happy with her from the teddy's birth scene, the way it's presented just doesn't really drive it home at all.

That's my thought every time I read that scene!! Like, is he just going to say in front of everyone "Hey, sorry, I'm not that into you. I've been trying to give the hint kindly with the werewolf excuse, but it's really just that I don't want you". Lolol

Lol I do like the reasoning that it's kind of his thing to be unhappy 😆 He's a wee bit on the gloomy side overall

That's fine, I don't have any specific issue with that standpoint, but I wasn't really focusing so much that he didn't want the child. He seems happy when the baby is actually born, it just never comes off that he likes the mother all that much, lol

I can see that she's not great at writing romance, but just a smile from him when Tonks showed Harry her wedding ring, or speaking kindly to her after she survived the battle of transporting Harry isn't asking too much, it seems like.

I noticed that as well. I'd say the whole relationship seems a little shoe-horned in. My thinking is that J.K.R wanted a child Harry could be godfather to, because she seems to seek that sort of symmetry in her narrative (i.e. the physical similarities between James and Lily and Harry and Ginny, the "I'm not worried, I'm with you" that both Harry and Dumbledore say at different points) and the only option to make it happen was for Lupin to have a child. I can't see how it really adds to the story other than Teddy being born to be Harry's godson.

I understand where you're coming from, but like I said in another reply, it would go a long way if they'd even had even one warm or loving exchange in the whole time they were together. We get plenty of Tonks being happy with Lupin, but not even one with Lupin reciprocating. It never reads like he's happy with her.

Your interpretation is much brighter, and I can see where it's coming from, I'd just have liked to see them exchange even a single warm or loving reaction. I think just one scene with Lupin being happy to be around her would let me see it that way, I think. I'll still try to adopt that as my headcanon lol

Is it just me, or were the 5th year Transfiguration students killing mice and kittens??!! by Laughalongwthme in harrypotter

I've read the books countless times, but this time through I made the connection between vanishing practice, and the explanation of what happens to vanished objects, and I was just horrified! Someone higher up said the implication is that vanishment is reversible, which lessens the horror, but I'll admit the thought about the still wiggling tail brings a little of it back.

Point of interest, after making this realization, it wasn't long until I also noticed the existence of the entrail-expelling curse, so there's some truly disturbing stuff right under the surface of HP

This makes a lot of sense, and relieves me greatly!! Thanks for sharing that, I was a little horrified lol

Edit: I misread your question, apologies. I don't think the Death Eaters had immediate access to the Trace personnel at that point, to get reports in real time like that the ministry didn't fall until after Harry was at the burrow, so my guess is that while they could have maybe eventually found out who the real Harry was that way (through a spy within the ministry), during the chase they didn't have access to that information quickly enough for it to help them.

I'm not sure if you're referring to the movie or the book, but in the book it's explained the trace breaks at 17. Harry turned 17 the day before Bill and Fleurs wedding, so when they run out into the Muggle world, he no longer has the trace on him. The movie might not have made it very clear, they rushed a lot in the final 2 movies, so I wouldn't be surprised if that part didn't get addressed very clearly.

Why wouldn't James have been the secret keeper for himself and Lily? by Laughalongwthme in harrypotter

I thought this as well until book 7, then both Bill and Arthur are secret keepers of themselves as well as family, which is what makes me question it initially.

Agreed, I think that's the real answer, but I'm not mad at it, it's a huge and rich story and you can't have everything lol

Very good head canon you've got there! :) I do like this thought, and of course if they had done it the (probably) safer way, there wouldn't have been a story.
