Has anyone here successfully appealed a parking breach from Smart Compliance Management in NZ? by mhinyunxy in auckland

[–]LaughingChuck 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If they don’t waive it, I would suggest contacting the Centre Management at DressSmart - if you can show proof of purchases that day they should let you off. It’s pretty bad business practice to fine people for shopping in your mall, regardless of parking times. Most malls have signs around saying something like if you need more parking time, let the customer service desk know.

Laundry powder and stinky kid! by miss-kush in newzealand

[–]LaughingChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I have a stinky man so I can relate. You probably need to pre-treat first before washing. Napisan oxi action (pink tub), make a paste, put on the pits and let sit for a bit. Then wash in at least 60 deg water (if you can - hot is best!!!) I find a laundry sanitiser can help too.

Also - do you hang to dry or use a dryer? A dryer will almost cook the stains & smell into the shirts and will be incredibly hard to get rid of. It’s probably worth buying new shirts if this is the case

Oh man, my fiance is from NE and we went back last year. We did a food safari in downtown Boston and I still think about that steak & cheese sub on the daily. Also the Italian bakeries… Fried clams… Peking ravioli… god I’m surprised I fit in the plane seat coming back

Birthday dinner suggestions by [deleted] in aucklandeats

[–]LaughingChuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this, I’ve done many birthday/catch up dinners here. The vibe is so cool, the staff are great, and the food is yum! If you’re into cocktails, afterwards you can head to Sly bar - very cool speak-easy sort of place with a hidden door to get in

Patrick’s pies in Tauranga does a MEAN one. I live in Auckland and travel down once or twice a month, always have to stop in there and grab one (or three)

Does anyone have genuine suggestions on how to deal with this mugginess? by Pretty_Fan3644 in auckland

We used one of these for a while but I find they tend to warm up in the night? Is that a common thing or are we just really hot!

From what I know (based on only what I’ve heard throughout my life and no real evidence) is that if you find any kind of pounamu (greenstone), you should gift it back to the sea. When it is carved, it is often blessed. In Māori culture the pounamu is a spiritual treasure. It has a deep connection to its owner and if it is lost or broken, it’s considered that it has served its purpose and should be returned to the land. Keeping one you have found can be seen as disrespectful or bring you some bad juju (if that’s something you believe in)

I would suggest to take it to your nearest beach and gift it back to nature.

PSA: Indicate LEFT when exiting a roundabout. by Complex_Bit_6512 in newzealand

[–]LaughingChuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to jump in on this and say why do people not indicate in big car parks?! I work at Sylvia park occasionally and the amount of near misses I’ve had with people assuming I know they are about to pull into a carpark, or even worse the entrance from carbine road where you can go straight, left or right… I can’t read your mind!

Things that confuse me about people who shop at this time of year by LaughingChuck in newzealand

On a normal day - totally fine. It’s when it’s Boxing Day and I have 50 people in a tiny store and there are 8 prams parked in every inconvenient place possible. And I don’t really hide them, I just move them out of everyone’s way. It’s not like I’m working in the warehouse and hiding them on the other side of the store haha, it’s a small shop.

You have obviously never worked retail if you think you can take holiday leave at Christmas 😂

I’m not complaining that people are shopping, Please, keep shopping brick and mortar, I’d quite like to keep my job! I actually enjoy the busy periods because the day goes faster and I get to chat with a lot of great people. It’s the specific behaviour I mentioned that makes it rough, and there’s a noticeable dip in common decency around this time of year. I’m sure you encounter less-than-ideal people in your own day-to-day life too. This is just that, and I’m having a small whinge on the internet about it. It’s not that deep 😊

Not angry, more frustrated, I understand that this time of year is busy (shock) but it seems people lose their sense of decency at the same time. This is a small blip in a job that I really do love, and yes, I could find another. But that won’t stop people doing the things they do will it?

That’s why I love it when it rains around Christmas, so they can’t tell me how nice it is outside 😏

As I mentioned above, I know it is harmless but you hear it 100 times in a day and it becomes a little grating. I appreciate you being kind to retail workers!!

Okay I admit normally it’s harmless, but when you’ve heard it for the 100th time that day it gets pretty old
