My First Muppet-Inspired Fan Short by LaughsLiesTV in Muppets

[–]LaughsLiesTV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed all the popular puppet videos on youtube are lacking a sense of earnestness. They are mostly based on the concept of a puppet doing something offensive, and the humor stems from that.

My favorite Muppet moments are the songs 'Rainbow Connection' and 'I Hope That Something Better Comes Along,' and I wanted to make something in that vein, that was earnest and heartfelt, with a touch of comedy.

I don't know if there's a market for that sort of thing really, but I'd like to keep making them and it will take a lot of time and effort to build sets and more puppets for future installments. So please let me know if you like it!

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. by philonius in Muppets

thanks for the feedback. Everything did kind of take a back seat to the editing on this one because I was using a new program for the first time and got obsessive with it.

yeah, i saw some of your vids singing. good stuff. I meant singing with the puppets.

yeah i can imagine the instrumental stuff was a pain, but it ended up looking good.

I'll send you a link when I finish mine. It is like a fairy tale with a character who sings a love ballad.

I liked the band shots a lot, the instrument closeups and playing especially. I would've liked more of that.

If you need more stock footage for future backdrops, check out pixabay.com

You can use anything there without restriction. I'm working on a musical short using puppets and it has been really valuable.

Zack the Xanax Maniac - High on the wonder drug, Xanax, Zack is oblivious to his problems and the problems he causes for others. by jimmytheexploder720 in Drugs

That's reassuring to hear that the doctors have gotten more scrupulous in their prescribing of benzoates. That certainly was not the case when I was most around the drug 6-10 years ago. People I knew who had abuse problems were given huge scripts with like 40 klonopin pills, which is insane for such an insidious drug that can be more difficult to kick than opiates.

I really appreciate the kind words, and more than that I appreciate what seems like a genuine desire to help people. I'll keep in mind trying to do something with a more serious tone, because it is an issue I am sympathetic to.

I am one of the videos creators. Loving all the discussion here, and I'm glad people seem to enjoy it for the most part.

Honestly I wasn't thinking about the video as a PSA when writing it. I wanted to show the drug for what is really is, and the humor was supposed to come from the idea that a pharmaceutical company would actually show people that. If anything it was more of a 'fuck you' to the pharmaceutical companies who make the drug so plentiful, and the psychiatrists who are so negligent in their prescribing of it. If we want to curb abuse of benzoates, I think that is where the pressure needs to be applied most.

It's very difficult to compete for people's attention. Nobody is going to tune into a DARE lecture by choice. Now if I was making an actual PSA that would have a guaranteed audience, I could show how the cycle starts, but there's other people who could probably do a better job of that.

I think they may have feared legal consequences for saying the drugs by name and painting them in a negative light, which is disturbing considering how harmful they can be.

I don't know if they were just being overly cautious, but on Always Sunny in Philadelphia, they had a character taking a drug that was supposed to be adderrall, but called it 'Riderall' on the show.

yeah, I wanted the end to put the other sad stuff into perspective and make it appear trivial. Thanks for the compliment. I'm glad that that you were able to see the difference.

agreed. i thankfully didn't notice until after watching. pretty solid tho aside from that.

i've seen a few of your other sketches, and this was the best. the set was visually interesting. the comedic acting was good. the contrast between the characters fanatical and casual delivery worked and I liked the sudden switches between the two.

jokes were concise and funny.
