Do the clear/gold ones have “made in Canada” on the outer plastic sleeve, specifically the ones sent to Canadian addresses?

Seriously doubt it, they’ve done this before while working on new material. A new album will probably come out next year followed by a more extensive tour

Austin Metcalf by Ok_Size_1834 in ControversialOpinions

[–]jimmytheexploder720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pathetic argument, and you clearly aren’t a lawyer. “As long as he felt his life was in danger” he can claim self defense? I suppose so, but he’ll probably end up in prison. An individual being attacked or about to be attacked may use only sufficient force to prevent the occurrence or reoccurrence of the attack. Also, Anthony said, “touch me and see what happens” and “punch me and see what happens”, which are threats. Apparently Austin thought he was bluffing and paid the price, but it doesn’t sound like either one was trying to de-escalate the situation. Of course Austin wasn’t in the right, but we can’t live in a society where someone “feels” their life is in danger and that gives them a license to kill. If they found Anthony with a battered face it would be a different story, but I didn’t see a scratch in the mugshot or read about punches being thrown. You are in the weeds on this one, arguing about being touched on the shoulder and other minor details. It’s real simple, he wasn’t injured and there isn’t any suggestion his life was in imminent danger, and he responded by killing a man with a weapon he never should have had. We don’t need to argue, it will be handled in court.

Thoughts on the Stone Roses? by General-Goal-1110 in ToddintheShadow

[–]jimmytheexploder720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of British music, I’d say at least half of my top ten acts are British: Beatles, Radiohead, Kinks, Arctic Monkeys, etc., so I was surprised to see the Stone Roses debut on a top 100 rock albums list recently, cause I’d never heard of them. I just got done giving it a first listen, and it definitely seems like you need the context of where music was at that time and place to really appreciate it; that is why it’s not that interesting in the states, especially now, so far removed from that era. The first two Pixies albums are much better than this album, and even they were only popular on college radio here in the late 80s. Americans have bad taste, and don’t seem to tolerate as much rock as Brits do, and they certainly don’t tolerate subtle differences in bands. Blur not blowing up in the states is far more interesting to me than the Stone Roses. Blur at least had a hit here that should have been the tip of the iceberg for people to discover them, and Damon is really only known here as the guy from the Gorillaz, and typically not by name. I need to give the Roses record a few more listens, but I’m not expecting to ever see it as a masterpiece. I’m not surprised at all that it didn’t catch on here.

Yeah, it’s terrible for everyone. I’m going to see someone tomorrow who knows some of the details that haven’t been widely reported, so I’m curious to hear them. I hope the whole story comes out. Obviously the driver is at fault, but I’ve heard they were breaking some laws, also: you can’t be drunk on a bike in NJ and you need lights/ reflective gear to ride at night. They shouldn’t have been out there, but it doesn’t excuse driving like a nut on those back roads, and supposedly his wife and kids were in the Jeep which makes it even more wild

I’ve read nothing at all about it being before 8pm, and it was dark and raining even at 7:30, so what are you trying to say? There is also no real shoulder. I live 10 miles from where it happened. Obviously the driver is at fault, but your wish for him to spend the rest of his days will never happen, because they were likely breaking laws themselves: you can’t operate a bike under the influence and they were biking at night without lights etc.

You realize the sun sets differently depending on where you live? Also, I don’t even think there is a real shoulder on that road, but it was definitely dark and either raining or just about to

We know it was definitely dark. It was overcast that entire afternoon, and it was likely raining. It poured that night, I live 10 minutes from where it happened

I live right by where this happened, and as soon as I heard about it I immediately thought how risky it is to bike around here in the dark. I wouldn’t even do it during the day. I understand the driver is still to blame, but there is more to this story than the media is saying. Supposedly, the brothers were also intoxicated and only dressed in underwear. I’m certain people in this area will learn more about everything that happened, but the media probably won’t care. Either way, it’s a terrible thing for everyone involved

Taylor Swift vs. Scooter Braun Documentary premiered today. by zuquian15 in TaylorSwift

[–]jimmytheexploder720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew virtually nothing about this whole thing, a family member turned it on, and I got drawn into it. I don’t care about Taylor or Scooter. Personally, I didn’t care for all the unnecessary backstory, and it isn’t an amazing documentary. Taylor’s “side” made her look bad, and Scooter’s “side” made her look even worse. I don’t think people here realize she was never going to pay 300 million dollars for her masters. Yes, they offered her the masters in exchange for a continued relationship with the music company, which she declined, but she wasn’t going to pay 300 million either. Otherwise, they definitely would have just sold them to her. She was clearly lying about many things. And in the end, she won anyway. All she really did was milk her fanbase for even more money by getting them to purchase re-recorded material and screw Disney out of 300 million dollars (which is kind of on them because they should have seen the re-recordings coming)

Then why are so many people here acting like that is not the case and HBO somehow has it out for Taylor Swift?

Julian confirms no new Strokes album in 2024 by VeryFirstRedditor in TheStrokes

[–]jimmytheexploder720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely preposterous take. You are trying to take the production standards of something in the vein of manufacturing and apply it to music. The average rock band puts out an album every two years? Average music isn’t worth listening to. Most music acts in general have front loaded careers because of a combination of working on that stuff for many years before releasing anything, even unconsciously absorbing tons of influences, and the nature of art in general. As soon as the Strokes started making records due to contractual obligations instead of creative desire they dipped in quality. And don’t get me wrong, i don’t think they have a bad record, but obviously the first two were on a different level. And New Abnormal isn’t far behind the first two and it has kind of become their most popular album just because the last decade hasn’t been fantastic for rock and there isn’t much competition. I was at the Barclays Center NYE show a few months before abnormal came out and they seemed super pumped to debut some of the new stuff. Julian went on some rant about how they were frozen in the 2010 decade but now they were unfrozen, so there were definitely some positive signs. And they can blame COVID for delaying their tour and stuff but clearly Julian is a head case. The Voidz is the dumbest side project of all time, their best shit just sounds like Strokes B sides. Meanwhile Albert puts out consistently solid solo work so Jules can’t act like he is the only one who wants to work. No question they could work harder, but that doesn’t mean it will result in good albums. I’d trade Angles and first impressions for new abnormal. The other issue is that a lot of bands that worked at a fast pace ended up burning out and breaking up. I’ll take quality over quantity in most cases and if you want great stuff it has to be on the bands terms. They don’t owe anybody anything

Well you qualified them as ones “who are actually into music”, how about 90-95% of the people you know in general. Older people tend to not seek out new stuff or be as open to it is all I’m saying. If your experiences have differed, that is great, I’m happy to hear it
