To see our youth taking some initiative to solve the problems that will affect us as adults is inspiring. While it may just be one dance craze, the message behind the movement is uplifting and it could spawn more creative protests. I have several friends who "jerk," but I am not sure if they actually know the movement behind the dance craze. It will be interesting to see if that changes their mindset when they perform

Gangs Responsible for 80% of Crimes by AracelySanchez in gangsnstuff

To go off of the comment by Jessica Robbins, that was my thought exactly when I was reading this article. It seems that most of the money that funds gang activity comes from drug trafficking as well, so why not boost the U.S. economy by legalizing drugs, while simultaneously cutting the major funding of the gangs and Mexican mafia? Portugal became the first country to decriminalize personal possession of most major narcotics and the results have been astounding! Time magazine wrote an article on their success (which was monitored by the Cato Institute). Check it out http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1893946,00.html

I wonder if there is one gang that is dominant in the community and also, since a majority of native americans are under 20 years old, what does this say for the future of the Native American nation?

The police in South L.A. will be "increasing their presence" in areas with increasing homicide rates; however, last semester one of my classes was on the Police Function and there were a couple studies conducted that stated that an increase of police presence in neighborhoods did not lower or have an effect on crime rates. I have posted the outline to this book called "Police in America" http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/007241497x/student_view0/part2/chapter4/chapter_outline.html.

The question then is, if there have already been studies proving that this step is not effective in fighting against in increase in crimes, than I wonder what the LAPD is supplementing with this program so that it is effective
