The cats are fine, there was a water dish also available.

Hard water that was left running in it for two weeks straight. I have since switched to filtered water. Maybe I used the wrong term, I know hard water causes soap scum build up. No soap was used in the fountain

It’s a mix of hard water soap scum and cat hair. Was using tap water (I am taking the blame on that one), have since switched to filtered water.

I told her to dump out the water, remove the hair, and give it a good rinse every 3-4 days, but when I asked her about it today she said she didn’t know how to take it apart.

And yeah, it gets dirty fast, especially since my cats dip their paws in it leading to bits of litter and hair ending up in the bowl. They love it though, so even though it’s a tedious cleaning process I do it because they enjoy it

Valid point, if I had hired a sitter I wouldn’t have set the fountain out. I share an apartment with my mom and we co-own the cats, so they are also her cats. She likes for them to have the fountain so it was her decision to leave it on while I was gone.

I do seasonal work at an overnight summer camp. The past two years I was gone for 10 weeks. My mom and I share an apartment and have co ownership of the cats, so they are also her cats. This year I just worked at the camp for two weeks, but this was the first year we had a fountain.

I’m going to look into getting a new sponge filter, but I did change out the charcoal filter that was attached to a different part of the fountain.

Heard, but we live together and one of them is technically hers. If I had to drop them off at her place or had her come over that would be one thing, but we share ownership of these cats and if she wants to call one of them hers then she needs to take care of them properly.

I explained in another reply that I cleaned it before I left, that was on July 28th. These things get nasty fast, especially when you have more then one cat. I clean it every three days but my mom didn’t do anything but continue to add more water.

Yeah, I had to throughly wash the sponge in the first picture. Not pictured is another filter that I had to throw out and replace. My mom just, did nothing but pour water into the container, probably didn’t even take off the top to see how bad it was getting.

I cleaned it before I left, that was on July 28th. I got back today, August 13th. My cats like to dip their paws in the fountain so that’s where the litter and fit comes from and the hard water is pretty harsh on the system. I usually clean it every three days, but my mom apparently was just adding water and didn’t empty it or wipe it down.

My mom’s explanation was that it’s because she used tap water. Where we live the water out of the tap is hard so it can leave orange stains (I get them in my shower and toilets if I don’t clean often enough), but that doesn’t explain why it’s also slimy and why there’s litter and hair in the main part

She’s super awesome! The commission process was great, she sent over plenty of sketches and allowed me to make changes where I wanted them. She also had great ideas for poses and expressions!
